• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Almost all truckers in my area. There used to be some locals but haven't heard them all summer. No skip going. I have a Uniden 980 ssb and it scans all 40. I find the truckers passing through can be on any channel. When the skip is in I use ssb. Even stock I can be heard all over the country and even a few times to Alaska, Australia and New Zealand on a RS mag mount. Call out, sometimes they come back to you. I said "snow" on channel 19 yesterday and got several comments from the drivers. What set up do you have?

either

ether is what radio waves go through, or the gas that knocks you out.
either means one or another.
but CB is not what it ever was,and is almost dead.

have you thought of getting into DMR? I understand that there is a huge DMR network in Texas. Just a thought. On another note you could also check repeaterbook.com to see what repeaters are close to you.

Being this is the CB Radio Forum, I seriously believe that neither DMR nor Repeaters will help the OP. It is true that there are several DMR repeaters in the Lewisville TX area and even more analog Ham repeaters as well, but since those are Ham, not CB related, neither of those will help a CB Radio user either.

Get on the air and make some calls on 19 am and 38 lsb. Scan all the channels when the skip isn't going, and leave it scanning when you are not calling. It's really all you can do. Ham VHF and UHF aren't much better. HF ham is where the action is when the SS numbers are low, but propagation hasn't been good above 20 meter. I have a 980ssb scanning at home all day on 5/8 Maco antenna and one in the car on a mag mount. All I hear usually are truckers that can be on any channel passing through and an occasional radio check on 19. I did hear some skip a couple of weeks ago, but it was one evening for a few hours from the west coast. Talked to several stations on 38 lsb but it didn't last long. That's why you need a radio on all the time, preferably one that scans. When the skip is in there is plenty of action, but it is rare at the moment. It will be back.
