Notes : [Location] Brickfields Reserve, Launceston Tasmania - Portable session in mid afternoon. Signals were as I would expect. Doing a direct compare with yesterdays results shows that every signal was within a point of yesterdays session. This is a very nice spot and I will use it again in the future.

NOTES: Session in the late morning from this location. Weather was overcast with recent rain, it started to rain again as I was packing up. The spot I set up at is near the front car park and has a table a bench to sit on. Overhead high voltage power lines are close by but don't appear to have caused any issues.

I will adding this spot as a future location, with some planning I hope to use this for sunset / night time DXing sessions.

NOTES: Tonight I undertook a portable Ultralight radio dxing session at Freelands Lookout. As it was after dark the main gates were closed so I parked on the road and walked in. It has no lights so it was very dark. Being such a high and exposed location meant it was very cold, I was glad for my jumper and vest tonight. It has great views of the Launceston CBD and down the Tamar River towards Georgetown.

I set myself up on the rock wall and using my torch was able to log a wide variety of signals, overall these were much better than what I logged from my session last weekend at Royal park, the lack of lights and being away from the electrical noise of the city made some difference.

2CR on 549KHz was booming in, just about the best I have ever heard it. 3RN on 621KHz was also very strong, easily the best signals of the night. 3AW on 693KHz which normally booms in had some issues with "assumed" 4KQ causing some weird mixing.
The top of the band was again less impressive with only a couple of stations pushing anything better than a 3, 3MP on 1377KHz was surprising poor.

Overall this a very enjoyable session and this location proved to work well, only the coldness and my lacking of suitable lighting made me cut it short.

Is that some kind of homemade ferrite antenna attached to your portable?
How about some details?
