Hi all,

today my trusty 436HP fell off the table and landed very unlucky on the ground. During this excercise it broke the antenna connector.
The upper 2/3rd is stuck in the stock antenna.

Anybody know a repairshop around Bay Area (SFO,SJC,OAK) that could fix that for me at a reasonable rate while I'm in the US (I leave in on the 27th)

Thanks,
Ralph

I think your best bet is just send it to Uniden where they have a flat rate for repairs and they will put a new connector on it when they get the old one out. I had the same thing happen minus dropping it on my 396 XT and then on my new SDS100 the connector broke the day after I got it. And neither radio was dropped. The connector on the 100 was just a faulty connector that had a flaw in it and the 396 connector was old and I'm guessing worn out. I didn't have to send my 100 in but I did have to send my 396 in and I think it was $69 flat rate. And Uniden also fixed something else that was wrong with the radio but I can't remember exactly what it was. I don't know if the prices have changed any but it was really a good price I thought to be able to get it fixed and running again and I think it took about a week and a half to get it back.

I just looked that up.. price sounds fair.. the 14 to 20 days make me nervous, as this is cutting it VERY close to my return flight....

I'll fill the paperwork and think about it ... Thanks for pointing it out to me.

I broke and replaced the antenna connector on my 436 about a year ago. I documented it at my blog (https://n9jigblog.wordpress.com/2017/12/).

This is the step by step tasks that I took: https://forums.radioreference.com/uniden-tech-support/362917-replacing-sma-connector.html

Check it out and see if you think you are up to the work or not.

IF I were at home I'd do that, as I know a friendly person with extremely good electronics hardware skills, and who is good with a soldering iron... I suck at this,
Right now I'm on vacation in Northern California, so this doesn't work for me.

I'll try calling HamRadio Outlet when they open. If I draw a blank there, Uniden it is....

Cheers
Ralph

Rich, checked out your step by step procedure for the SMA connector replacement. You make it sound easy, especially for this guy with two left hands!
