To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi, can the NX-3320/3220 have both DMR & NXDN with FM all programmed in various channels? I was told it was either DMR and FM or NXDN and FM, but looking at the literature on kenwood web site it now says : An NX-3000 radio can simultaneously support two digital protocols plus analog, offering the following combinations: FM/NXDN and FM/DMR."

I wanted to confirm with others that indeed one channel could be NXDN and the other one DMR, etc.
Also, can this go into the ham band UHF?

Thanks for your help.

No you can have only 1 Analog and 1 Digital System in the 3000 series. If you need more then the 5000 series will give you 1 Analog and 2 Digitals. I may be wrong but that is what I remember reading.

The NX-3000 line will do:
Analog
NXDN
DMR

When you program it, you can program it for Analog and NXDN —OR— Analog and DMR.

You cannot have DMR —AND— NXDN programmed in at the same time. If you are looking for that, you need to get an NX-5000.

The radio was intended to be a "one radio on the shelf" product for the dealers. In other words, they didn't need to stock a bunch of analog/NXDN radios and analog/DMR radios in each band.

I've got a few of them at work, but currently running in all analog. Nice radios. I'm waiting for the 800MHz version to be released so I can use it on my trunked system.

The NX-3320 will cover 400 - 520MHz, so no problem for amateur.

I like the 5200 series. It offers the nxdn, dmr, p25 if you have it enabled which I plan to do later and get.

I like how kenwood has made a high tier radio affordable and you can add the options later after owning it.

It is very volunteer fire and ems/Sar oriented for ehat you may need and have ability to upgrade protocols if needed later.
