Icom: ICOM IC-47A no sound

My ic-47a was doing fine and then today it randomly quit producing sound. it shows RX and the S meter works but I can't get any sound out of the speaker or from the external speaker jack. Any ideas?

The pots on them were known to fail. I had to replace the one on mine when the radio was 3 years old. I’m sure your radio is 30 years old.

yes sir, im not sure the exact age but im sure its in that range. I picked it up at a hamfest for $1.00 so not a big loss if I can't do anything with it, I just didn't know if there was some sort of easy fix

It was easy to replace, but finding the part could be difficult now. The hardest part was removing the knob. There is a band on the knob which must be removed to find the screw holding the knob to the shaft. After that it’s easy. Good luck in finding the pot.
