• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

A "kill code" is not transmitted as a normal MDC data burst it is a unique data burst that can only be generated by a properly configured Centracomm class console and base station system. The data that is transmitted disables the radio in a way that will only allow it to be reactivated by the console that disabled it or the Motorola factory.

radio kill and stun

At our HQ we have our base console and when we hear somebody whos not suppose to be on our frequency or If we have a member playing around on the radio we type in radio disable and and we look at the radio identifyer and we enter thier radio number and we hit stun or kill and they will not be able to use the radio at all if its killed or they will not be able to transmit at all *EVER* untill we enable thier radio again. Also with are units (cars/ambulances) we can disable them completly by the click of a mouse and lock you inside if your a thief :)

The MDC Stun/Kill option can generally only be transmitted from Dispatch Consoles - ie Centracom Consoles, and I'm not totally sure if current Zetron products support it or not, but I would not be suprised if they did. Typically, only the Console that "stunned" the radio can "un-stun" it, but if you force a matching 'good' codeplug from a good donor source radio, you can revive it. Not sure on newer radios such as the Waris and 2500/5k radios, but older first generation Astro radios are possible to revive.

try these opcodes within short MDC messages:
sun command = 0x2b0c
stun ack = 0x0b00
revive command = 2b0c
revive ack = 0x0b0c

command is sent to radio
ack is sent back by radio to confirm it worked

Not quite so. The Radio Inhibit and Radio Restore commands are in the same format as any other MDC sentence, with only the three-digit hex value changing.

That said, Motorola for obvious reasons doesn't encourage folks to be about to home brew these commands, and what the codes are is considered sort of proprietary. Just for the record, however, it is quite possible to program a Zetron paging encoder to send them.

We use the Zetron ACOM system, and some of our other agencies use the Centracom. The ACOM system works just like the ACOM system with all of the Enhanced MDC features. There are several other companies out there that also do Enhanced MDC functions.
