Very nice! Salem OH is just a county away from me. If you were picking up 50 Mhz beacons out of Ohio, you'd think I'd have been hearing some STX traffic on low band. I never think to check 6m beacons. I'll start.

I have never heard a conversation from them, only the Morse ID, even when I am in Childersburg. Did you hear voice comms?

When I do and can get enough to be useful, I try to write it down. Something was definitely said, but i don't remember what - and I doubt it was anything that made me particularly think it was the prison. I'm just going by the fact that I likely could have heard Alabama today - and added to that the fact that the RRDB has a listing for that freq/exact PL. Obviously that's not a solid confirmation, but that's what I put.

I'll make sure and pop it in the next time I'm hearing things down that way and will see if I can get some more info that may help us confirm/deny that one.

Mike

If you're identifying the 42 MHz transmissions with 173.8 CTCSS as MO from the RR DB, then the DB is wrong. That tone belongs to the North Carolina State Police on those frequencies. I hear them almost daily here in eastern NY.

the tone 173.8 is MOHP too,i get both here some days, the RRDB is right.i do find it odd that they both have the same ctcss and im guessing that mo gets into nc on skip, back in the 80's mass went to 42.xx and picked the same tone as another state.

I hear both NC and MO on 42.380/173.8. The accents, or lack of in the case of MO, usually make it easy to identify. With all of the tones available it is unfortunate, for us anyway, that they chose the same one.

Here are a couple of short clips from this morning of MO and last week of NC on 42.380/173.8:

Hmmm, OK, I stand (or sit) corrected. Thanks for the additional data.
