Don't know if it's what you heard but that's a common one I hear used by KS Guard helos.

Could have been - band was open to MO at the time.

I was mobile, with a magenetic mount, in Jackson California (not on 'the hill' either) and picked up CHP mobiles in southern California.

42.080 CT:118.8 Beige 1 mobile
42.840 CT:162.2 Tan 1 mobile
42.660 CT:162.2 Orange 1 mobile

Lots of stuff on low band here, most of it locked out.
