I have no experience with this App, but thought this may be of some interest?

Looks interesting to unlock all the features the app cost $9.99.

Do not have a sdr dongle radio so could not try it out.

Default SDR Android

I am hoping someone can make this SDR combo work with the
APC computer running Android Gingerbread. Check out APC
for more information.

Default SDR Touch

Unfortunately, SDR Touch is not on the site anymore. If you got it previously, they do have the key for sale to unlock all of the features. Hope it comes back soon.

Does anyone know if I can brick my cell by trying to "root" it? When I try to run SDR Touch it tells me
that I need to have a root device. Samsung Stratosphere. If this is in the wrong place or out of line just end it.

It is possible to brick your phone when rooting. However now a days with the one click rooting apps it's usualy not going to happen and in most circumstances there may be a way to unbrick it. Things aren't as bad as they were back in the droid milestone days. For more rooting information visit rootzwiki.com

FYI The bigger issue with SDR touch comes with the use of the OTG cable. Not all phones support OTG cables. do some research to see if your phone supports OTG cables or if you need to have a power over OTG for your phone to recognize the OTG cable.( Google "your phone model" OTG cable) I made the mistake of buying one for my bionic just to find out that i require a powered OTG which means a Y cable and some extra stuff. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a "mobile" platform if you need an external power source and 3-4 different cables or splitters...

Mancow, could you link the micro usb to RTL adapter, and post back your findings. I have a rooted note 2 and may be interested, thanks.

Angry RE:SDR DONGLE!

Just a word to the wise and not so-wise. I tried my "dongle" on my Galaxy S3 last weekend. I have the OTG adapter and put the app on the cell. Well, I plugged the combination in and attempted to turn the cell on. NO GO____I removed the dongle and tried to turn the cell on___NO GO. The current draw was too much for the phone and it killed it big time! Luckily I had warranty on it and returned it for a replacement.

I know the OTG is good for USB "thumb" drives and not for spinning HD"s, but I guess my particular SDR just drew too much current!

Lesson Learned!

Pleased to report that it works with my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (T-Mobile). Don't forget to put your device into "airplane mode" when using this setup to reduce the RF noise levels.

Does it require root? I keep hearing references to root but didn't think it did.

It hasn't arrived yet but theoretically should work.

Hi,
I found out on the SDR Touch Facebook page what the deal is with it vanishing from the Play Store.

Apparently the author of SDR# has made a DMCA complaint to Google that the author of SDR Touch copied and used some of his code.

SDR Touch is supposed to return to the Play Store shortly (they can only keep it off for 14 days so I'm told).

Default Works on A500 Tablet

Have it working on Acer A500 tablet. Tablet is rooted running CWM JB Rom 4.0.3
Installed RTL2832 driver from play store
Plugged in E4000 tuner dongle
Checked force root
App reported:
Found Elonics E4000 tuner
Tuned to 918000000HZ
Listening

Started SDR Touch
Changed to WFM
Tuned to local Radio Station

So far it has been very stable

It's a great app. Still has a bunch to go, but a GREAT start! Like another poster said, putting your phone into airplane mode to turn off all radios helps with the noise floor especially for 800/900MHz stuff.

I got it working on my Asus Transformer TF700 with the TF201 dock. The software freaked out a bit when I accidentally put the tablet to sleep and then tried to bring the app back to the foreground - had to unplug/replug the device to make it happy again.

I'd like some more SDR#-like features too, and for some reason it was brutally hard for me to fine-tune to the exact frequency I needed (example: 154.828, looking to get to 154.830.. nudge it a tiny hair's breadth, it goes to 154.833).

I forgot about that airplane mode suggestion - I'll have to give that a shot.

I only played with it briefly to confirm it worked, so I wasn't paying tremendous attention to additional features. I wonder if you could output baseband audio from the headphone jack, to feed "discriminator" audio to any of the various software programs that can use that?
