Congrats on the Antenna

I had one of the "Expensive" discones from Radio Shack about 10 years ago. It worked great for all the old analog UHF / VHF Freqs. No longer have it or I would give it a try with my PRO106 on the 800mhz range.

Let me know how it works out on the 800 Trunking bands if you listen to those.

You should be able to get Greenwood Airport Easy. You may how some problems getting the "Tower" side of anything from GSP or Greenville Downtown. However, you may be able to get both sides on 135.350 Atlanta ATC. The repeater is in Owing, SC.

Also, what are the freqs your picking up DNR and Foresty on

Keep me posted.

Thanks,
Tiger Scan

That antenna is nicknamed "Sputnik" by some members of the board because of its odd appearance and resemblance to the first satellite launched by Russia. I've used one, and it performs really quite well on VHF and UHF. It's light and low-profile so it's easy to install, and best of all it's cheap, relatively speaking. But it's not especially rugged and it doesn't have much gain, however. Its orientation is above the horizon, so it's great for air monitoring. I was not pleased at all with its performance on 800, but it should be able to monitor nearby Palmetto 800 sites. I replaced it in lieu of a gain antenna for VHF and UHF (actually a mobile dual-bad whip on a NMO base adapter).
