We haven't heard anything yet: But we're speculating late-spring or summer, though. It will also depend on how real-world testing is going with public works and when the SO goes online.

Well, Public Works is sounding good, No dead spots that I've heard, So testing with them sounds like it's going good so far.

Thanks for the info.

No info in regards to the SO being encrypted or not, But testing lately I have noticed other than a few transmissions a day being encrypted it has been mostly in the clear.

They are not planning on it for normal radio traffic.

Default York County Squel

I see the fire Marshalls are online now, as of friday, The only problem is I get a squel sometimes in the middle of conversations, I hear a lot of traffic from Animal Control which is pretty clear after I turned off the "Digital AGC" on my PRO-2096 but when I listen to the public works talkgroups, a unit will be talking and halfway through the sentence I hear a loud squel, and cannot make out what anyone is saying, anyone else have this problem? I have heard this intermitantly on other test talkgroups, but it doesnt happen to often, the problem is mostly on Public Works where it happens almost everytime, I hear someone talking. Any ideas?

Wink

The date to which the Sheriff's Office is to go online with the new system is Feb.13, it also seems that the SO are only going to be using portables only for the time being according to radio traffic, also the only encrypted talkgroups will be Narcotics, Swat, and Supervisors talkgroups.

Thanks

You'd think they would see why that's a bad idea. Even if they have 99% coverage, that's not as good as a mobile in use.

This was reported to me as the date all traffic will cease on the old frequencies. I was led to beleive that you should be able to hear increased usage prior to that, as the rest of the HT's will be distributed soon. Some "power" users, for lack of a better term, already have them, and will serve as a help desk of sort to the rest.

I know they have had some concern of the battery life of the portables and since they work 12-hour shifts, I belive that the battery life will create a problem for them.

I believe that if i can remember correctly that all officers will be getting new HT's the first week of February.

There has been usage by the "power" users such as SGT's, detectives and captains, Also do you happen to know what model the portables they will be using just out of curiosity?

Thanks
rmquinn

Got a chance to check one out a while back, but didn't think to look a the model number. I'll find out the next time I see it. In the mean time, I have a good visual recolection of the unit- I'll get on Mot's website and see if I can ID it.

Edit: After checking the website, it's the XT2500. I think the one I saw was a Model III, but it may have been the Model II- I can't remember if it had the full numeric keypad.

Do you know when the mobile installs will be completed in the Sheriff's Office vehicles?
Also do you know if the private call function will be used by the SO?

Thanks for all the information

If I remember right, it was a month or so after they officially went "live".
