It happened about 45 minutes ago. Heard someone say" have a nice flight". On 145.8 FM

Right now real time 1733 EST 145.800 Use heavens-above.com and when you have a good pass you'll know it.

And be sure to check our SATCOM wiki for more links....remember, the Kenwood may be powered down at any time. Often this is for safety reasons (primarily during spacewalks or cargo ship arrivals). You can't expect to hear it every time, even if you have a real high pass.

Be sure to check the AMSAT website - at times they may announce special tests or experiments on the ISS equipment. We just ended a rather long stretch where the repeater mode was used in low power, and some time ago they were testing L-Band uplinking and SSTV downlinks. That link is also in the wiki.

You only really need 145.8 - if the cross band repeater is up, listen here to get the downlink. 73 Mike

What are you using to try to hear the ISS? Sometimes indoor antennas don't work so well, all depends. Your best bet is to use a tracking program that will help you see what direction it's coming from, go outside, and point the antenna on your handheld that way. It's pretty strong, you shouldn't have any trouble. Open your squelch up all the way. When you tried before, it might have been low on the horizon, that makes it tougher as well. Orbitron and the N2YO trackers will give you a graphical display of the satellites. Orbitron requires a little work to get it going, nothing big, or N2YO will do it for you.

Good Luck

At about 1:30PM through 1:40PM CDT I copied NA1SS today on 145.800. "Mike" was talking with a VE school station somewhere in Canada. My QTH is northeast Wisconsin.

That would be likely be Mike Fincke KE5AIT with a school contact with the Castor Valley Elementary School in Greely, Ontario, Canada. If the station is in range during the contact, it's a great time to catch them

Approx. 1230 ET today I went to get something from my truck and heard Sandra Magnus calling for VA3JUV and made contact after about three calls. In Oklahoma City I was able to hear her end of the conversation for 2-3 minutes before it faded. Going by the callsign it looks like she was talking to a Canadian school.

Default Slightly off topic, then again maybe not...

My wife and I saw the station go over last night. We keep our horses outside of the city and when I found out there was going to be a visible pass we stayed out late in the pasture and watched it go over. Unfortunately there was no radio activity. I wish they'd put it in beacon mode when not in use to help as a tracker.

It has been in packet mode for most of the passes recently, did you listen on 145.825? Been hearing it here quite a bit.

No, I'm behind the times. I thought 145.80 was the only downlink frequency in use. Programming it in now.

PS: It works perfectly. Heard three passes this afternoon by listening for the data bursts.

It's been pretty much all packet for a while now. Take a look at ISS Fan Club | get in touch with the International Space Station and
OSCAR Satellite Status page by KD5QGR for up to date info on what mode it's in.

Cross band is active... Took me by surprise to hear it reversed from just a few weeks ago.
Uplink is now on UHF 437.800 downlink is 145.800.

Is there a PL on the UHF Uplink? I had 114.8 in but I think I got in under another carrier.
