Default Receiving 406 EPIRB signals from GEOSAR birds

Has anyone had any success receiving the 1544.5 signal from satellites that are relaying 406 EPIRB (Search and Recue) signals?

I've seen a lot of descriptions on the web for designing such a receiver, but haven't heard of one operating yet.

Is it reasonably straightforward to receive these?

Bump. I think the newbie-post delay buried this. Or maybe nobody's getting the EPIRB signals.

Default Geosar

Hi,

It should be fairly simple to copy the 1.5GHz downlink and resolve the epirb data. I have listened a lot to the 1.5GHz sar downlinks from both geo and leo satellites, and have indeed decoded lots from the leo's. The geo's tend to need a larger dish for the l-band because of course the signals are weaker. During my experiments I used the COAA software to decode the epirb bursts.

Pop along to the #hearsat IRC chat room Live Hearsat Chat Room | Hearsat.org - there are a few there that have also monitored the epirbs from SARSAT.

regards,

Paul. (pjm in #hearsat)

xz -- I sent you an email.

All -- Any help here most appreciated. Is anyone out there receiving the L-band downlink/bent pipe of EPIRB transmisions?

Thanks.
