Default Shuttle heading towards USA now

LIVE REAL TIME SATELLITE AND SPACE SHUTTLE TRACKING

Space walk is in progress at this time as they approach USA.

Listen up on 296.8 259.7 279.0 - you might hear them - AM I think.

I cant really tell what the track is - but they seem to be heading towards Panama or Mexico - maybe they will then go over Cuba - possibly hearable from South Florida or southern Texas. Lots of talking now. 1158AM EDT

Thank for the information, but you would probably get more people to respond to this because they are interested in this type of monitoring by posting this in the space-satellite monitoring forum.

Again thanks for the update.

Saturday - space walk will be approximately 816 AM CDT to 246 PM CDT - the track appears to be further to the East today - at 704 AM EDT the Shuttle flew northeast bound over Panama, Columbia, Venezuela, and east of Puerto Rico. The Shuttle orbits the earth once every 96 minutes. Possibly listeners in Australia will have the best opportunity to listen in today. Peter Sz

Default US Space Shuttle - Saturday

LIVE REAL TIME SATELLITE AND SPACE SHUTTLE TRACKING

Listen up on 296.8 259.7 279.0 - you might hear them - AM I think. Saturdays space walk should be from 816 AM CDT to 246 PM CDT. It appears that listeners in Australia might have the best chance of hearing them today. At 704 AM EDT they flew northeastbound over Panama, Columbia, Venezuela, and east of Puerto Rico. They did not pass over the lower 48 in the USA at all. The Space Shuttle orbits the earth once every 96 minutes. Peter Sz

STS-125 has a lower orbital inclination than usual because of being in Hubble's orbit, so only the southern U.S. states have much chance of hearing them.

140 PM ish should be the next pass over Houston and central Florida if I added correctly - and then 316PM - if they stay in the same track. I have been told that the AM freqs are no longer used - you might want to hunt for digital signals that come up between 400 mhz and 406 mhz. Peter Sz

I was advised that the spacesuits might now be using digital radios in the 400 to 406 Mhz range. No one has reported that the spacesuits were heard on the AM freqs on Friday or Saturday. Listneing to NASA TV, I did hear mention of "Air to ground 1" and "Air to ground 2". Peter Sz

Rather than hanging around here talking to yourself, why don't you post in the Space and Satellite monitoring forum? You would be more likely to find people with a similar interest and probably get more responses.

Those are TDRS satellite encrypted comms - they still use UHF to talk from the suit to the shuttle.

Space walk underway again now - Monday morning - 820AM to 120 PM EDT - this will be the 5th and final spacewalk on this mission. Shuttle is over Africa as I type at 918AM EDT.

Rdale - which UHF freqs are still used for spacesuit to Shuttle comms? 300 Mhz AM, or 400 to 406 Mhz?

Peter Sz
