Default Shuttle Launch tonite (12-July-09)

Hi all.

NASA Support units are operational via 261.575MHz from FltSatCom8 over the Atlantic - worth keeping an ear on this frequency. #hearsat folks are currently monitoring comms related to the shuttle, if you are also doing this please come to Live Hearsat Chat Room | Hearsat.org to join in the fun!

regards

Paul

I heard my first ever Shuttle transmission on my scanner a few mins ago here in the U.K on 259.7. One very clear sentence preceeded by two very weak ones.

I again heard comms for the shuttle at my QTH in Northeast Pennsylvania. All I got was "Endeavour Copy" on 259.700 AM. I have it recorded if anyone cares to hear it.

Can someone plot the tracks for the upcoming EVAs? Is it possible to figure out if they will be over the USA during the spacewalks on July 20, 22, 24 or 27? Will they be over the USA today during the EVA? Peter Sz 1256PM EDT

You could try this. Just enter your zip code..

Thanks stormscanner - looks like I am out of luck except for maybe the last EVA (which apparently has not been plotted yet). Peter Sz Boston MA

EVA has started - 1135 AM EDT - they are near the Phillipines as I type - Peter Sz Boston Mass USA

Technically - the EVA starts as soon as the space walkers go on battery power (per NASA TV)

they are over Turkey - new EVA is starting

NASA TV is very crackly sometimes with comms from the astronauts

"go for egress" - 1039 AM EDT - out of video range at this time - ????

It appears that their tracks are primarily taking them over South America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Hello China! Shuttle is right over your head - right now. 1049AM EDT

I am muting the NASA TV audio - it is giving me a headache - and I have been listening to scanners for 40 years. Apparently every time a space suit touches something, it causes the radio to key. Very annoying to listen to. I dont see how the mission controllers can stand it. 1124 AM EDT

Bonjour France! - shuttle is overhead - EVA in progress - 1206 PM EDT
