Unhappy Possible satellites?

Ok, maybe I am in the wrong forum, but I just need to know if what I m seeing are satellites, high flying jets or "UFO's". Hopefully someone can give an explaination for this. I went outside this evening and always look up at the sky, within 30 seconds of being out there could see something moving above me and a bright light, then the light went off and the object kept on moving. No sound came from the object, just light and moving off. Higher up, I could see four to six other objects moving through the sky, no sound, just a spect of light in the sky, moving south-southeast. Would just like to know these are.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum or not even close to being on the right forum. This was as close as I could get to answering my question.

From what you described, that would be a satellite. If it was an aircraft, it would have blinking lights on it. Might have been an Iridium flare you saw. These are satellites that will get brighter momentarily then fade. They get brighter because of the solar panels they have. I'm wondering if you saw Iridium 33 wreakage. This satellite colided with a Russian satellite, & has a debris field around it now.
Check out some of these web sites to track satellites, & the Space Station.

Human Space Flight (HSF) - Orbital Tracking
SpaceWeather.com -- News and information about meteor showers, solar flares, auroras, and near-Earth asteroids

This one is really cool.

If you have the time, spend some time outside in the evening, & you'll be amazed at how many satellites you can see passing overhead. Try to stay away from any bright lights, & give your eyes some time to adjust to the darkness.

Thumbs up

Cool, thanks very much for the info. I never did see any lights flashing like on a plane, thought the objects could be satellites, but did not think I would be able to see with the naked eye.

Thanks again
