Hi TerryRR nice to see you joining in on the discussions :)

Thread or forum ?

There is always interest in racing but it seems that sports related scanning doesn't merit creation of new forums . I suppose there is a worry that threads will go off topic and veer into sports rather than radio and freq. discussion.

Share your knowledge on the Wiki anyways

It would be nice, but i don't think there is really enough interest here to sustain a forum. This question pops up from time to time and there is usually 5-10 people that respond.

Welcome Terry.

Your Best Bet Would Be To Post In The State Forum That Is Holding The Race Of The week, Ie Florida For Daytona.

I Beleive That The Teams & Nascar Have Their Own Freqs, The Tracks Also

If you're going to a race your best bet is to just bite the bullet and purchase a frequency list at the track. That is likely going to be the most accurate and up to date. From what I've seen a lot of what you find online is outdated.

I know I have tried to get a racing form on here. But there isn't enough support for it.

I've asked about creating a race scanning forum where we could discuss race scanning, frequencies, etc, and was told there wasn't enough interest in setting one up.

Personally, that reason doesn't wash with me. Take a look at the list of forums, when the first thread was created, and how long they've been around. For example, the system managers forum had had 58 threads in 4 years. The MPT-1327 forum has had 60 threads in 45 months. On a state level, look at the Hawaii, Idaho, North Dakota, Rhode Island and Vermont forums. They don't generate a lot of threads, but they are still around. Also, the foreign monitoring section doesn't have that many threads.

I think a forum where folks would discuss race scanning, exchange frequencies, etc, would generate more threads then those listed above.

I always wondered why there was not a auto racing topic, after all we have , aircraft, marine, and railroad topics. just my 2 pennies, I quit watching major racing, I still go out to the local tracks though.

If enough threads stay active in the General Scanning forum, a new forum might be created.

So far I do not see that much traffic and a thread or two in the General Scanning forum seems to fill the bill.

I would love to see a section too for race fans, The hobby is wide spread to the many different spectators to even people putting on the shows. Going to a race track is like a second home to some scanner monitors, you can walk around and see scanners hanging out of bags or on belts. Being a fan and going to Pocono once in awhile and those great PA sprint/dirt tracks scanners are very popular and getting a forum would be great place to post that information or keep readers updated.

Most tracks do not change frequencies too often which helps when travel around and keeping stuff updated and having a forum would help keep track of that stuff.

A forum just might take off for race fans, Just my thoughts too.

Are the Freq list at the tracks that dependable??

From my experience, yes. They're put out by the same companies that provide the radios to the race teams as well. I'd hope they have the right info.

The frequencies that the drivers use are "loaned" to each team by Diversified Electronics (they also provide/program the radio's), so unless there is a problem with a frequency, it will normally stay with that car (not driver - sometimes they change teams) the entire season. I.E. - Earnhardt will not be on the same frequency he was on last year.
