The nice thing.....I can restart the icecast stream remotely via Proscan.

One problem...It works as long as I keep Proscan up on the pc where I am located, it doesn't actually restart the stream via the instance of Proscan running at home.

I guess I spoke to soon, it starts the icecast stream however there is no audio on the stream, just the text tags. I guess I can't remotely re-start the icecast stream via Proscan. If I can't resolve this I'm going to have to go back to sending the stream to icecast without Proscan. I hate that because I like being able to control the radio remotely.
enable remote desktop (or VNC) so you can remote in and re-enable or reconfigure remotely.

I also need to add that I've been running 2.9 for a while and it works great. Thanks Bob!

Hmmm the auto reconnect should have caught the stream going down. I think I had it already happen once here.

How is Proscan checking to see if the feed is still running? Personally I found a php script that I run on my steaming machine that just checks the mountpoint evert x mins so I know how many are online. When the number stops showing I know my feed is offline. I wonder if checking the mountpoint would be a better way.

Anywho, I purchased proscan on Thursday.

Default Alpha Tags Thru Web Server/Scan Cast

Hi Bob

I could use some clarification/help on streaming alpha tags via the new Web Server/Scan Cast feature. My "current set-up" is listed below, followed by the clarification/questions I now have:

CURENT CONFIGURATION:

Bedford, Derry, Hudson NH Police
Uniden BCD996T
Simplecast for Stream Encoding
Talk Group Monitor for Tags

Manchester NH Police & Fire
Uniden BC898T
Simplecast for Stream Encoding
Talk Group Monitor for Tags

QUESTIONS/CLARIFICATION:

1. Can I now eliminate both Simplecast and Talk Group monitor to stream tags thru the Proscan Web Server/Scan Cast feature?
2. If the answer is yes, are alpha tags only possible with the BCD996T and "NOT" the BC898T? I don't see the BC898T on the supported scanner list, so I'm assuming tags are still not possible eve with the new Web Server/Scan Cast feature.

What I'm trying to do is have the least number of software components running on my streaming PC's, but also continue to provide Alpha Tags where possible. I'm assuming alpha tags are still only possible with just Uniden scanners, not Radio Shack or GRE?

Thanks in advance!

On the Uniden BCD996T: Yes

Text tags can be retrived from any program that puts the text tags in the title / caption area so if the 898 application puts text tags in the caption area the ProScan can retrieve it.

Click the metadata button and choose the application.

There is a bug with the .net framework library function that ProScan uses to get other application titles and was noticed when getting the title from ID Tracker because ID Tracker was written in vb6 and vb6 uses a hidden main window. The title may not be correct. The bug will be fixed in the next version.

I will be looking at this next. What kind of indications do you get when you say "having trouble keeping ProScan alive'? Is there a message in the message box indicating that the connection was lost from ProScan to the IceCast server.

Hi Bob,

My experience has been Proscan loses connection with the icecast server yet the status light is still lit and Proscan still shows I'm connected. Usually I don't notice this until I get the email telling me the feed is down. It usually seems to be around 12 hours after starting the icecast connection but I can't say for sure.

BTW this is using 2.9.2.

Thanks,

I have received the RR email that the feed was down and ProScan still thinks it was connected. Though the last 24 hours it has been running with no issues.

I have started to work on the loss connection detection and reconnect.

Email me for the latest file to knock this one down.

Default ProScan 2.9.3 is out.

-------------------------------------------------------
What's New

* ScanCast - TESTING detection of loss connection and auto reconnect.
* ScanCast - RadioReference auto configuration.
* Remote Scanner Over IP - Audio from version 2.0 back in.
* Special Request - Writes current channel information to a text file option.
-------------------------------------------------------

I did work to the detection of the loss connection ProScan ScanCast --> IceCast. Let me now how it's working out.

http://www.proscan.org/ProScan_2_9_3.zip

Note that anytime the connection from ProScan ScanCast to the IceCast server is lost and ProScan ScanCast restarts (manual or auto), The media player connected to the IceCast server needs to be restarted.

I've been running 2.9.3 for over 24 hours and no disconnect issues. It looks like you fixed it! Thanks.

Thanks for the reports.

The disconnect detection is very simple as I have it now. Anytime there is an error when sending the audio out, ScanCast will disconnect and will attempt to connect in 10 seconds if the auto Reconnect is on.

Time will tell if anymore work needs to be done.
