Scanners without tag support

I've been using one of the first versions of ScanCast on a BC895XLT feeding just the audio and it works great. It's providing audio to my feed here on RR and the flash player on my web site and has worked with no problems running on a P3 with Win98 and newer systems using XP. And setting it up was easy as well. Give it a try.

I agree with George. I've been running an audio only feed with a Radio Shack Pro-2096 since the first version of ScannerCast came out. No issue at all. I am however glad to see Peter making it standard functionality that is apparent to all users.

NEW VERSION: V0.8 (701) -- Adds Audio-Only and Stereo Support
Finally!
V0.8 (701) of ScannerCast has been released. This version adds, by popular demand:
1) Audio-only support -- Lets you use ScannerCast with just about any scanner to create a feed that does not have alpha numeric tags associated with it.
2) Stereo feed support -- Lets you send two feeds simultaneously: One on the LEFT audio channel another on the RIGHT audio channel. ONLY ONE FEED CAN HAVE TAGS.
Both of these features were widely requested by users... so here they are!
Click to go to K1PGV's ScannerCast page
Enjoy... and, as always, I'm eager for your feedback. Send me email at my callsign (k1pgv) @arrl.net.

Are you sending your feed through RR or do you just want to listen to it locally??
If you just want to TRY it to see if it's working, you can start Winamp on the same system as ScannerCast and point it to the URL The RadioReference.com Forums - Powered by vBulletin (assuming you used "5700" as the ScannerCast port).

Error
I tried downloading scannercast, but i keep getting an error message. The "unzipping" part goes well, but when i double click to run the application I get the error:
"The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135)."
Any suggestions on what might have caused this?
Thanks
Daniel

It is likely that you do not have Microsoft .NET installed.
Or follow the directions on Peter's webpage - About the .NET Framework.

Downloaded the program and had it up and running within 3 minutes. One of the best and easiest programs to use without a doubt! A+++++++
Thanks Alot!!

Thought I would post to see if Peter's working on anything new for ScannerCast. This thread has been rather...dead. I really think the thread should be stickied!

Hi Patrick,
Thanks for asking!
As well as being busy with "family things", I've been trying to let the current version of ScannerCast get a lot of use to shake-out any bugs or problem scenarios with the core functionality. So far, it seems to be pretty stable across a very wide variety of operating systems and computers, and there don't seem to be any key features missing. For example, support for stereo feeds and audio-only feeds were the direct result of user feedback.
There are still some pretty exciting features planned for release before V1.0 is complete. These are:
1) Support for remote scanner control via the web -- no client software needed (obviously, this doesn't apply to scanners being used in "audio-only" mode); This will let you connect to your scanner via an internet browser to change settings (lock-out channels, change scan groups, etc).
2) Support for saving/restoring configuration parameters from named files. Right now, you can run multiple copies of ScannerCast on one machine, but it only saves the settings from the last copy you run. This makes it difficult for folks who support multiple feeds from one system (you want to set all the copies of ScannerCast that you have running to automatically restart if the system is rebooted... right now, that doesn't work well).
3) Implementation of a "VU meter" that will help you set the volume of your feed accurately. This is a surprisingly difficult thing to do, and it takes a ridiculously large amount of CPU time to display. So, while this is one of Gordon's original suggestions for the program (which I have definitely NOT been ignoring) I can't guarantee that it will make V1.0 -- If I *do* provide this feature, it'll almost certainly be in a separate pop-up dialog (so it won't be something that's ordinarily displayed).
4) A "check for updates" check box, that'll enable ScannerCast to automagically check K1PGV.COM to see if a new version is available.
5) More complete documentation. This is, basically, a never-ending quest.
6) Anything else I hear from users that they say is really desireable.
So... that's the plan. My goal is to have V1.0 complete (out of beta, done, stable) by the end of the summer.
In case you're curious, there have now been several hundered downloads of ScannerCast.
Again, thanks for asking. And, thanks to EVERYONE who's sent me feedback/comments/ideas for ScannerCast. If we all work together, we'll make ScannerCast the best possible scanner streaming application.

Thanks for the update. Yes this version is very stable I've had no issues at all with it. I look forward to testing future betas prior to V1.0. Thanks for your time, it's appreciated!

Out of curiosity, will this software allow us to send a single feed to multiple servers like oddcast? We currently use two servers, one on the east coast and one on the west. If one server goes down our listeners can easily switch to the other server to continue listening.

Thanks for asking. Unfortunately, the answer is "no" -- This isn't supported, and this feature is not planned.

Hi Tim,
Thanks for asking. The answer is "Yes", more scanners (including the 246t, which has been requested many times) will be supported in V2.0 -- Unfortunately, I still have V1.0 to finish :-)
But definitely, support for tags with more scanners is coming,
Peter

A couple of comments:
It would be really nice if it would "remember" which sound card when I start it up.
It only seems to send tags from my PSR600 when scanning, not when in favorites.
