"alsactl store" (i don't use it so I don't recall, it's been a LONG time since i've voluntarily used alsa) ended silently. Many linux commands end slightly, don't always expect info back
The "#" vs "$" is the system prompt, ignore it. It's a character in a string command to help delineate the end of the prompt line. Some systems use it to differentiate between user level and admin level rights. If you don't know what level your rights are on that system, just type "whoami" - and you'll get your answer.
since I see you "sudo"ed that command, you're elevating appropriately.
