Default Squelch

On the older radios there is a squelch knob, but on the new there is not. My question is, is how do you set the squelch on the newer radios? And when they do where is it set at? Can you have it all the way max because there is a PL. - Commercial Radios

The squelch is set in teh programming of teh radio.

PL makes the setting less critical, and may disable it completely depending on the particulars of the radio and the settings chosen.

Hi. Agree, the squelch setting is adjusted in the programming of the radio.

However, we have over 1000 portables and mobiles and we just use the factory default setting and never had a problem.

Regards, Joe

2 to 6 seconds.

I don't know if there is a single default across models and types.

A sheriff department by me just got a brand new Motorola GR 500, and it is set to shut off at about three seconds. I didn't know if this was how they set it or default. Another question if you don't mind, is there any advantages or disadvantages to short or longer hang times? And what does most departments tend to use? Thanks again
