Default New Radio

I have just purchased via Ebay an older Kenwood transciever mod. TK-940. Kenwood does not even list this model on the web site. It's a 800 mhz radio. When I turn it on the display reads UNPROG. Does anyone know how to program this radio? I was planning to use for recieve only and hopefully tap the descriminator chip. It's got to have a better front end than a run of the mill scanner. I didn't pay much so I wont be to dissapointed if it is what I think it is!!
Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks, Chuck

I'll try to get some info from someone I know with contacts in Kenwood. I don't see any references to it, do you know when it was produced? If I find anything out I'll respond back here.

this is his initial response:

--- This is an 800 Mhz Mobile radio. It has been discontinued for about 3 years. Programming software model# is KPG-25D. Where is the company who needs it located?? ---

I don't know if I can find the software anymore. This guy is a manufacturer's rep and Kenwood is one of his products.

I also found a parts supplier and emailed some questions. The radio is for personal use. I would like to program control channels only to use with Trunker. Your help is appreciated.

You will also need the cable to reprogram the radio but if you seach on ebay "Kenwood Radio" I'm sure that you can get the programming software for the 940. I have many of those units I purchased on ebay out in the field being utilized as regular commuincation equipment. If you need help let me know....

Alarmroom,

Thanks for the info. I found a bunch of radios for sale but no software or programming cable. The pt. # for the cable is KCT-19.
Someone out there must have some of this stuff laying around. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks again, Chuck
