Default Training on new radio systems

I'm not in the industry, but am curious about the training process.....

When your agency purchases a trunking system, does the vendor provide training to the end users or do they do a train-the-trainer (TTT) course?

A search of the RR site found 1-2 references to TTT courses and groupwide user training.

If so, is there a different level of training for dispatchers and 911 managers vs. field users?

If you have a training plan or method to share, that would be great. I am a technical trainer for a medical device company. Our products are highly technical and require different levels of training depending on the user (doctor vs. nurse vs. patient). We don't do alot of TTT courses, but do deliver training in small group and 1-on-1 sessions.

It depends on how much you want to pay.

When the agency I work for switched to a new trunked system, we had the option of having the vendor train everybody or train-the-trainer, or not paying for any training at all and making due with the manuals. We ended up doing a limited number of vendor training classes for the public safety folks, and train-the-trainer for everyone else. Given the content of the vendor training, we could have just done TTT for everyone.

In my experience, the TTT approach is used for the end users. The technical and engineering staff get the factory training, usually at the factory classrooms where interruptions are at a minimum.
