This is great news for iPhone and iTouch users.

That is awesome news!

This is confirmed. Very cool.
What *really* bugs me about the iPhone is that you can't do things and have the feed in the background...

Some even better news.
Those that have an iPhone with v3.0 on it or a mobile device that supports MP3 HTTP Streaming can test their devices on the Beta Test site.
We just completed development of adding the Live Audio components into the mobile interface.
See: http://m.preprod.radioreference.com
When prompted to authenticate use the same credentials listed at the top of this thread for beta users.
Note that you'll only see feeds online that are participating in the Beta process. Would love to hear feedback from you guys, especially ones who have the iPhone 3.0 software. I've tested with mine and it works perfectly over wifi and 3G.

Does anyone know if you can back out and then go do other things on the phone and still here the audio or do you have to keep it open to hear the audio?

Yea, the feed reporter daemon had died... I've got some things working tomorrow to make sure they are always running so we'll get those implemented tomorrow. Good catch!

So, I signed up for, was approved, and have started a test audio stream in anticipation of the changeover next week.
The notifications are a little bland right now, and for those that aren't sent to mobile devices, perhaps should include a line that says "don't reply".
Also, if the "action taken" is merely an "email notification", perhaps that line could be omitted from the message.
Connection speed (feed source to audio server as well as client software to audio server) is rather fast (right now) and there is very little lag (about equal to what SA currently is).
So far, so good! I'm interested in seeing what the feed statistics will show (I'm sure at least what we get on SA) but overall this is a great beta.

That's an Iphone thing - due to the way it does [or does not] multitask well, right?
Mike
PS: I don't own an iPhone - but I thought I recently read in a WM vs iPhone article that iPhone's don't multitask in the way that one would hope that they would / expect that they should.

That is correct you can't multitask on an Iphone. Supposedly multitasking would kill the battery.

Two Questions
A: Will the new site work with Google Chrome? SA does to a degree, However, when I click on a feed. Chrome wants to save the feed as a file. Where as IE or Firefox open it in the default player.
B: Will there be a Shoutbox? If so, Can messages be removed automatically after a set time? SA has a Radio traffic Shout box but there is stuff in there that's very old and the poster's don't delete the stuff.
Thanks

Support for Google Chrome is unknown at this point. You might point Chrome at the Beta site and see what happens.
We do not have any plans for shoutboxes at this time.
Warm regards,

Ok folks, the first phase of the beta is about to end. All the test feeds will be deleted shortly and I'll be running a full import of the existing SA infrastructure as a test. You'll be able to listen to all the feeds currently on SA on this new beta test site - we just won't be doing any alerting or archiving from the beta site - all that will continue to be running on SA.
Thanks to everyone's help and support on the beta testing.. especially the feedback and folks that provided test feeds.
Warm regards,
