Default Thread Suggestion??

I see a lot of people trying to sell computers, emergency equipment (dash lights, etc), and lots of other non-radio related equipment on here. A lot of the members here are FF, LEO's, Medics, etc. and can use the lights and such. Some argure that the computers can be used for radio monitoring.

Wouldn't a thread in the Classifieds for "Non-Radio" type stuff be nice to have here? I realize this is "Radio Reference.com" but people post this stuff in the equipment for sale thread, why not create a thread for such items? I think it would be nice to have.

Just a thought.

I read that. I was just curious about a "seperate" thread for such items.

I agree. I think it would be fine... sort of like how we have an off-topic section for non-radio related discussion. If the section mentioned above shouldn't be made because it is off-topic, then the tavern should be removed also.

I think it would just lead to a bunch of crap being offered and is a bad idea.

Well, a bunch of crap is in the tavern. It's simple, if you don't like the crap then don't click on it

I don't see any justification for computers, MDT/MDCs...yes. Emergency equipment stuff, well, lets pose a hypothetical question.... What happens if someone buys the stuff from here and uses it for an illegal activity? Lindsay is the majority responsible since his site was used to sell the equipment. It's partly the seller to determine legitimacy but do you think they will?

Things work fine the way they are so I don't see Lindsay changing anything.

I, having no authorization to do so, can go on-line and buy everything I need, including lights, sirens, radios and decals.... and build an exact replica of a Bellevue Police Department cruiser. And it would be perfectly legal for me to do so.... as long as it stays parked in my garage!

And even if I decided to go play cop, I would be the one arrested and liable for my actions, not the company that sold me the equipment.

As far as selling computers... I have several older computers here that would be excellent scanning programmer/controller/on-line feed/etc. machines. I'd be willing to spend the time to put them back together and sell them here to users for such a purpose. But for just about anything else... they're just not worth the time to mess with. As soon as I run out of room and get the gumption, they'll be relocated to my dumpster storage unit.

However... I don't think we need a conference to sell just anything. I'd say as long as it's remotely related to scanning, I don't see any reason why not to have a conference for that.

My opinion... and prolly worth what you paid to read it!

Bob
