    NYC and Severe weather

Hurricane season is around the corner and that means more severe weather coming. The potential for flooding, damaging winds and tropical weather is high this year. Seeing that I'm probably not going to be out volunteering like I did during sandy and Irene, I thought I can put up a list of PS...

Chaos on NYC/LI ham repeaters, whats going on?

It's starting to sound like cb on these repeater as jammers are using fake or stolen callsigns and are jamming, cussing and playing music. I remember scanning these bands a couple years back and it wasn't like this now i locked this band on my scanner as its disappointing to hear. It's the hams...

Help NYC Mac user restore BC246T with factory database

I foolishly pared down some of the original presets that came with my BC246T years ago when I didn't understand the lockout function. I've wanted all the original presets back but understand a factory reset will wipe everything and not restore the presets. I've found the original file floating...

NYC Granted Significant Narrowbanding Waiver by FCC

Well, it looks like the FDNY VHF frequencies will be around for a while after all. The FCC has granted the city a rather significant last minute waiver for numerous VHF and UHF frequencies used by FDNY, NYPD, DOC and DEP. FDNY - The VHF frequencies in the 153/154 MHz range were granted a two...

    Hurricane Sandy Frequency Summary

All, I am working on my next column for the "Scanner Digest Newsletter", and was looking for input from those in lower NY (Long Island, NYC, Westchester). My current work conditions only allowed me to monitor via 'table top' scanning. In other words, back of radio telescoping antennas only...

    NYC Transit Authority

Am I doing something wrong? Anyway, I had my BCD996XT set to SCAN the Talkgroups in the NYC Transit Authority system I programmed straight from RR db. I decided to switch it over to SEARCH and see what I picked up. I am picking up a lot of TG IDs not in the db. Did I do something wrong and am...

Scanning NYC public safety UHF in NYC (Manhattan) - recommended handheld and antenna?

Greetings all, I've been using an old, conventional, non-trunking Radio Shack scanner with rubber rubber ducky and telescoping antennae, mainly to listen to SOD and traffic for newsgathering purposes. In low-RF areas, it works fine, and I like being able to make adjustments on the fly. In...

Best frequencies in Astoria, Queens area?

Hello, all. Years ago, I was a (very) casual hobbyist, but I haven't picked up a scanner since high school. On a whim, I just purchased a PRO-164 on Monday. I thought it would be an especially neat time, with the blizzard in the area and all. I'm admittedly pretty much a newbie, and I'm just...

    NYC VACS using GMRS frequencies

I was looking at a list of VACS in the n2nov site and have notice that some use GMRS frequencies. unknown if its simplex or repeater operation. But isn't this not allowed on GMRS? http://www.n2nov.net/nycvolamb.html

Can anyone identify this GMRS repeater?

They operate on 462.600 will a output PL of 151.4. At the begining of every hour, the station automated voice gives a time check. I also heard an automated voice say New york, New jersey, Connecticut. I dont know if this is a grandfather business, but its barely skimming me in Northern Brooklyn.
