Default Good Luck, Bad Luck...

So I went to a hamfest this morning in a raging snowstorm. I figure there won't be a lot of tailgate sellers today...

After spending a little time and a little cash in the Fest (got a great deal on some speakers!) I was walking back to my car when I noticed a black object in the snow in the driveway. Picking it up, it appeared to be an HT. Now I thought to myself that someone is gonna be real happy I found their HT!

Looking a little closer I saw that it was a Kenwood TH-F6A, just like the one I had on my belt that very minute! Even had the same 3rd party antenna that I have! Wow, who would have thought! If I can't find the rightful owner maybe I can use it as a spare.

Then I had a sickening thought! It was my own!

Now I realized my great luck, I came across my own HT in a parking lot with half a foot of new snow, and it was still snowing. I should go out and buy a lotto ticket!

Then I brushed the rest of the snow from the radio. My heart sunk when I saw the display crushed, the joystick controller mangled and the speaker grill crumpled. This would never work again.

So now I am in the market for a new HT. My trusty and beloved TH-F6A was now a mangled collection of parts. I salvaged the knobs, battery and antenna and tossed the rest. Even the die-cast backplane was broken.

It was one of those classic Good Luck - Bad Luck stories:

Good Luck: Found an HT.
Bad Luck: It was smashed.
Good Luck: I found my HT that I dropped before I knew I lost it.
Bad Luck: It was smashed.
Good Luck: I was at a hamfest, I can get a new one.
Bad Luck: There was absolutely no Dual Banders or multi-banders at his fest!
Good Luck: Now that I need a new HT, I can use the 2 batteries, chargers, programming cables etc for my TH-F6A on my new one.
Bad Luck: I might get a different HT...

If most people would look at life the way you have described your experience, the world would be OK, but sadly that is not the way it is--

Well, I can replace the THF6A for less than $300, and I already have two batteries, a programming cable, special speeaker mic and extra chargers etc., so it is not the end of the world...

Now I would be real ticked off if it were my BCD396T!

Consider it your tuition for attending the College of Hard Knocks. The lesson was you have no need for an HT at a hamfest unless you're working security or some other club function, if not leave it home. You have graduated with honors, here's your diploma.

For the whack jobs who insist on wearing them on bandoleers here's YOUR diploma.
