Default What type of plane did I see?

Alright, I live in Johnstown, Cambria County, PA as my profile states.

I was up at my local community college and was outside around 8:30PM. In the area is an airport fairly close.

Yet, of all the times I have been there, I have never seen what I am about to say.

I seen some sort of airplane in the sky and it musta have been fairly close, because you could really hear the engine.

Yet, no matter how hard I tried to look up, I could not see any body of the aircraft, to see if it was a commercial jet or something.

I just remember seeing constantly blinking red lights but some were blue in spots.

It looked like the plane was square or something, from what I was gathering from the lights.

I have some military around so I was thinking maybe that's it.

What type of plane fits my description that would not be flying that high, I mean I could seriously hear the engines like it wasn't more than a 1000 feet up, plus it just seemed to hoover around in the area of the school, it didn't seem in a big hurry. Never heard of a plane doing that before, unless it was a State Police copter with it's lights on.

EDIT: In case anyone is wondering, I'm not trying to say this is a UFO or whatever, it's just I have never seen a plane behave in this manor, just kinda float in the air for no apparent reason and go fairly slow when it did finally move.

"Loud" and "just kinda float" makes me think it was a Harrier.

They are very loud and can hover like a helicopter, but are all jet.

That could really be it, because as shown in this YouTube video:

YouTube - Another night Runway 5 Harrier approach...

I see somewhat of those "red lights" blinking and you can hardly see the body of the plane like I couldn't when I saw the one I saw.

The anti collision strobes are red, nav lights steady red and green, never heard of blue on an aircraft.

That actually may be it, that would explain a lot of the noise and with the wings it does have a kinda square look if you are looking at it from above.

I wouldn't be surprised with it being some sort of special plane because in my area we have airplane building companies here that do a lot of US Defense work.
