Default IP Address Look Up Question

Hello Everyone I did not know were to post this question so I just thought this would be a good place to put it since this thread forum is about anything.
I am wanting to know is there a way to look up someones IP address for free and if so where can you go to find out the information about someones IP Address for free ?
Cause I Keep getting this message telling me that someone has tried to log in several times and has failed and I have to wait 15 min to log back in. And it gives me there IP Address. And I want to know where they are from so I can see if I might know who is tring to hack into my account.
If you might know please help me out with a link I have tried Google but seems like everything there wants to much info from ya . Thanks KJ4JBC---Jason

At best your going to find out what provider the IP address is assigned to. You are not going to find out who specifically is assigned that IP. Your best bet is to open a support ticket with whomever is hosting the site you are trying to access for help. Perhaps they can narrow down the offending IP to see if its some sort of an attack, or just someone logging in to the wrong site my mistake.

You don't mind me asking just what is alerting you to this IP address? Is it the Windows log in?
A pretty decent firewall will help you. I use Comodo, which is free. This firewall is has a learning curve. Comodo does have a forum, so I highly recommend you visit there and check it out.

Firewall Antivirus for Computer Internet Security - Overview

https://forums.comodo.com/index.php

Results and comments - matousec.com

If you uninstall a firewall I recommend you also reset the winsockets. In XP you can use a program called winsockxpfix. For Vista it has to be done with CMD. Just google, "reset winsockets in Vista." This doesn't necasarly mean you have a current problem, but often times removing a firewall will cause problems with a new firewall install.

In summary, just add that IP address to a block list. Both TCP/UDP IN/OUT. Is this a networked computer though? What it the IP address?

Comodo gets awfully bloated after a while, think ESET.

No I am a dirt track racer for late model's and I go to track forum powered by v bullentin and some one has tried several times to log in under my account and after 5 times they dont get it right i get a email from the forum telling me that someone has tried to log in and has failed and I can not log in for 15 min. here is what it says.

(Dear lugoffman,

Someone has tried to log into your account with an incorrect password at least 5 times. This person has been prevented from attempting to login to your account for the next 15 minutes.

The person trying to log into your account had the following IP address: 165.166.158.226)

So I was like well how do I find out were and who they are ????

Have you contacted the admin. of that forum about it? Be sure to let them know of the IP address.

I'm curios. Do you have anyone else that use that computer? Maybe a little one?

Also, is your IP address as shown here using the same net range?

You have contact E-mail address listed here. Whois record for 165.166.158.226

Used it for two years now and no problems. The new version works better.

Make sure you use the purge features in the DEFENSE and NETWORK SECURITY settings. Also check the Diagnostics under miscellaneous once in a while.

I almost don't even need a firewall due to the router, (flashed with DD-WRT) however I like the packet watching capability and ARP cache protection. Which is good for laptop users on WiFi networks. Haven't tried sending forged packets to poison the ARP cache of my laptop yet to see if the firewall does in fact work. I run UTorrent every once in a while in VMware and notice it blocking ACK reset packets. HEHE. Too bad for those IP address. Can't reset JACK! Actually, this could be the result little buggers trying to do a half-open scan of my ports. Which is uber failure.

Hi lugoffman,

The IP 165.166.158.226 originates from near Camden, SC. If you believe that someone else is trying to access your account, you'll need to contact Spirit Telecom

Personally, I think the intruder resides in a room nearby, though somethings escape the eye.

Since the perp fails consistently why change the password? Why do anything? As far as I'm concerned it's a non issue, a successful hack might get my attention though.

Yep, Eset NOD 32 is the best out there.

To check the IP address of the computer you are currently using, you can also go to IP Chicken.

IP Chicken shows:
IP Address
Name Address
Remote Port
Brower used
IP Chicken - Whats my IP address? ip address lookup
