Default Old Posts Showing Up at the Top of the Forum

I'm sure this question has been answered before but here goes,
why on many of these forums are the first several entries old posts, looks like they have a diff icon in the left-most column, is that how these are sorted? Shouldn't be.

It depends how many replies the thread has, scroll down to the bottome of the page when your looking at all the threads. There is a legend that describes what each icon means.

Hope this helps,
Brandon G.

There are some topics that are 'sticky' topics that are 'stuck' on the top of the list.

Being overly logical, I'd like to assume the most recent stuff is on top. When a thread is on top and is (in at least one case) sticky and not updated since November 2004 it's time to move it down in the hiearchy.

Moderators, is this do-able ?

Stickies are "Stuck" on top so Newbies will see and hopefully read them.

The fact they are not updated does not mean that information is not current. (I.E. "Why there are no ProVoice Scanners", Do we really need a NEW thread asking that question?)

Yes, the stickies should be reviewed from time to time to make sure they are still relevant.

Top of the Scanner Forum is: Looking for the Scanner Model Sticky Threads?
Been there for quite awhile, only one post, dated November.
Time to give it the heave-ho.

Seems like a way to put YOUR info at the top, would be bad if everyone did it.

everyone can't put up a sticky...Only moderators and the adminitstrator. Also, the Scanner model sticky thread is actually an announcement from the site admin. It directs you to post questions about specific scanner models in the appropriate place. All of the sticky's and/or announcements are relevant!

First, it is not a sticky it is an Announcement. Sticky's get sorted under Announcements and then normal posts get sorted under them. As to your suggestion it get the heave-ho ... well I guess that is a pretty narrow point of view and thankfully one I can safely ignore.

As pointed out, only moderators can make Announcements and Sticky messages. Although anyone can start a topic and then request it be made a sticky, the actual making it be a sticky is up to a moderator.

Are announcements good forever?
It's your forum, just trying to provide constructive feedback.
I don't appreciate the negative words just because of a legitimate alternative point of view.

TO: bryanwhite:
Hmmm, sorry you took that wrong, actually I was just trying to be a little lighthearted. I see you have been a member since last December, I assume that you must have read some of my posts. Really, if I was being negative, there would have been no doubt in your mind.
(Note: Once again attemping to lighten the mood here.)

As to this being my fourm, that is absolutely incorrect; this is your forum, I was just trying to explain the differences between the types of posts that you might encounter. As for anouncements being good forever, well I guess they are as good as the subject matter. There is one at the top of the this fourm also, but it was allowed to be responded to for a while before being locked. It also serves a purpose, just in case someone needs to be reminded that the RR Tavern is subject to being removed if it once again gets out of hand. BTW, if you look at the announcements around you will see they are normally posted by Lindsay, you know the webmaster. I certainly am not going to remove something Lindsay posts, that is just a good way of getting fired.

That's cool, I didn't even know that you guys were in an actual employment situation, I thought this was some kind of hobby gone awry for the betterment of many of us.

Is there something among the pages that goes thru these protocols and such so we won't have to ask? I see the indicatiors as-to the diff types of icons but I didn't see what actually constitutes each and how the posts of each type are structured.

Gee, that would make getting fired an interesting thing.

Is there any write-up page as-to the meaning of the icons, what they do, who puts them out there, etc ?

Announcement = Something the owners of the board think you need to see. This will be seen at the top of every single forum page and will span the boards.

Sticky = Something the owners of the board think you need to know about. Usually consisting of an interesting conversation or possibly a conversation that is asked so many times they just want to be able to point you to it.

A sticky will only be on the forum page it is meant to be on. No others. It does not span the site and is always under the Announcements.

Hope this helps.

And your waaaaaaaaaaay to analytical.

Analyst is in my job title.
I was actually trying to understand what y'all have without
having you repeat anything that was already documented.
Thanx again

Don't take this offensively. But man you talk in circles.

However if I follow you correctly then the link you want is at the top of the page entitled. RR Wiki. Click it and all the combined information of these forums is in there.

Hopefully that will get you started.

Once again that was not meant to be offensive.

Don't see it there in doing a quick look, but, we've beat this to death, we can go ahead and drop it.

The only thing circular about what I said was to re-ask the questions that were not previously answered when I asked the first time....but don't take it personal.
