Default Motorola Ht750?

I know nothing about radios other than you push the button to talk to someone else...with that being said I have reciently aquired 2 motorola HT750 radios. 1-4 channel and 1-16 channel and now have a few questions about them.
1.how do you tell if they are UHF,FM,VHF?
2.Do I need a FCC license to use them?
3.can the 4 channel be upgraded to a 16 channel?
4.how the heck do you "program"the buttons?
5.anyone know of anyone in NC (western) that can look them over to make sure they function properly?
Thanks in advance!!

Likely everything you need to know (except the answer to #2 & #5) will be on the Batlabs website.

As for #2, it depends on what freqs are programmed into them. Likely you will need a license or be authorized on the frequencies. You need to find out what they are. You could get into big trouble if you transmitted an a local PD or FD channel, for instance.

For #5, a local ham operator could do that, or take them to your area Moto shop.

Correct.

You have 2 403-470MHz portables. You'll probably be fine using the simplex frequencies that are in them untill you can get the radios programmed, as long as they're not the frequencies of your local Police or anything serious like that.

Most of the radios bought off the internet seem to have 464.500 or 464.550 in them for test purposes. I have seen some with the low power business band splits in them like 467.7625. They may be no usage of these freqs in your area.
