Default Police officer mistakenly shoots daughter

This was a tragic accident. If my father was a police officer, I don't think I'd be sneaking in the basement window in the middle of the night!

You're right. I just don't associate basements having doors...at least not too many where I live.

I've always told the wife, and my two sons, if the house is dark, and I yell "who's there", don't joke around, answer right away!

Because when I was 18, my folks still had the right to tell me what to do. Because I still lived under their roof... LOL

Amazing the judgements being made on the basis of a three paragraph new article.

Why? From what I can tell he was well with in his rights afforded by CT state law. Atleast he has the cajones to protect himself and his family (well... ). Maybe he did something wrong, maybe he didn't- I dunno I wasn't there.

Very sad. I'm sure this man feels terrible right now and I hope people can find the power to forgive him. I have debated getting a small light for my Glock just so that I can identify a target in the dark. These things happen too often.

What does that have to do with anything? It have zero to do with his abilities as a patrolman on the streets. The law doesn't say you have to clearly identify a person in your home, in the dark, in the middle of the night. Its looked at by most courts to be an intruder and in Michigan you no longer need to retreat all you have to say is i feared for my life.

The only problem with a light, or laser on your gun is it gives the bad guy something to aim at too! If you use a light it might be better to have your gun in one hand, and the light in the other, with your arm extended out sideways, away from your body.

Below are some illustrations of other ways to hold your gun, and flashlight, and it helps steady both. But again, it gives the bad guy something to aim for.
