Default 9/11 NORAD Tapes.

Ok without getting into any conspiracy theory's or anything...... The tapes of the NORAD facilities audio have been released. There is about 120 hours or more of audio. You can find a torrent download at the below site:

http://u2r2h-documents.blogspot.com/...rad-tapes.html

Its interesting to hear the commotion, plus MANY Radio frequency mentions. Interesting stuff for historians, or radio buffs.

Ok, great post. I new nothing about torrent files and have always used firefox. I did download Opera and that is pretty neat that it downloads like that!

Question though...

The progress bar is at 0.1% I tried double clicking it and it opens a new folder with all the wav files in it. I try to open one and it tells me that the file is already in use. Do I have to wiat till the progress is at 100% before I can do anything?

Sorry very new to opera and no NOTHING about it......

*update* WOW this 3.3 GB file is going to take a very very long time to download!!!!

You generally need to wait until 100% of each of the files has downloaded before listening. Just an FYI for anybody who hasn't looked into this further, 3.2 GB is the total size of the download. I've been downloading since last night at about 100 kB/s and I'm almost done now (I'm using a program called uTorrent for the actual download).

The files included are as follows:

DRM1 DAT2 Channel 10 TT TK.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 12 ACWO TK.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 14 TT TK.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 15 AST Op.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 16 AST TK.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 17 TT Op.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 18 TT TK.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 19 SD2 OP.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 2 MCC Op.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 21 TT Op.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 24 AICC.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 3 MCC TK.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 4 ID Op.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 5 ID TK.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 7 ID2 OP.wav
DRM1 DAT2 Channel 8 ID2 TK.wav
DRM2 DAT1 Channel 20 SD2 TK.wav
DRM3 DAT2 Channel 24 Emerg-AICC.wav

The following Air Force instruction PDF does a pretty good job of explaining the abbreviations from above:

Torrents are about the slowest way to obtain files of any significant size. Expect to leave your computer online for several days without interruption to get all of those files.

Thumbs up

There was an article in Vanity Fair (of all places) about these tapes a while ago, including an interview with the USAF personnel providing some background. You can click on the transcripts to hear streaming excerpts of the tape without downloading anything.

I disagree. bittorrent is by far the FASTEST way to download a large file. Several days?? LOL It finished for me in just over 2 hours.

So uhher... CAN ANY ONE UNDERSTAND THIS?!
I can understand a few people but most of it is very garbly. According to the guy you can hear well; Duluth had no fighters. Great.. we have no fighters in the greatest state in the union.

that's your good connection, not utorrent.

Also, torrents are good for large files, it's not like you'll find an http host for these types of things.

The best of the files would bee the MCC Op and the ID Op. Some of it is hard to hear and understand but if you listen through you can get the general gist of it all.

Jimmy you are right. I first tried bittorrent and it was horribly slow. I installed Utorrent after reading your post and it has progressed more in the last two hours than it did in the last 24.

thanks

Can anyone determine what the "Op" audio is compared to the "Tk" audio for each of the stations? It seems like most/all of the Op audio is basically a vox recording of any audio from the operater's headset microphone. The "Tk" audio is then just some telephone line activity that in some cases is identical to "Op" audio, but in other cases was no part of the "Op" audio. I am primarily curious what "Tk" actually stands for or means I guess.

I'm glad I have downloaded the entire set of audio. But for folks wanting to hear more than what was released for VF and to hear the additional previously unreleased audio, it is pretty interesting. There are some channels that do have little to no traffic or similiar to the same traffic as other channels, so the two that were previsouly mentioned are good ones to start with. Also I found that the "Emerg-AICC" feed with all of the NORAD/air traffic from the AICC 364.2000 MHz frequency to be pretty interesting (exact same audio as the other "AICC" feed only better quality).
