That will tell you which service is being pirated.

Thumbs down

If it is a small dish, then it is either DirectTV or EchoStar. Stealing such signals is a Federal crime. I'd contact BOTH satellite companies and let them know.

Well considering I lived there for 12 years, and only moved out 3 weeks ago, I'd say I did get out of dodge pretty quickly,.. It's a shame because I DO NOT live in a ghetto,.. It's a very nice area.. Just some isolated bad eggs..

If he would tell the direction the dish is pointed, I'd know right away whether it's EchoStar/Dish Network or not (I've helped my dad with plenty of installations).

I had an electronics teacher that had someone pirating his cable when he lived in an apartment. he called the cable company and when they found the neighbors splitter told him he could loose his service since it would be his word against theirs as to who actually installed the splitter. so he waited for a nice storm and took and old cord and sent 120v down their cable right as lightning flashed blowing up their box and they thought it was due to the storm. Not that I would suggest doing anything like that, just thought it was an interesting idea

Okay...wouldn't the neighbor be able to prove that he was paying for service? If the other individual was using the splitter without paying, then I think that's a pretty clear case of piracy.

If they are pirating satellite your best bet is going to be Dish Network (USA) and Bell ExpressVu (Canadian) because these providers use Nagravision which has been hacked. I would suggest asking your question on www.satelliteguys.us and perhaps they could assist you with your investigation.

Just as Dave said, you should be more concerned about the H&S activity going on in your building than satellite TV theft.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

As a former CATV tech, I have seen and can attest to the effectiveness of this method. A 120 volt cord with an appropriate F connector attached will certainly discourage illegal hookups. Lots more fun than leaving a door tag too. If you time it just right you can power up just as the thief walks over to his set to "adjust" things.

"I'm going to bury these low lives and this is just step one,...."

Not at all likely, mess with them and it'll be you who gets buried.

Thats the worst thing to do,if everyone moved everytime a drug deal moved into their building s they'd take over.

I personally have thrown a few (crackheads)out of the building I live in,wich I found sleeping in the stairways.but of course the ones that lived here there was paper work involved but needless to say this building is clean now, thanks to the 2 cameras installed on every floor also

So Ryan try and get em on the drugs...Im sure the law would be more interested in that.
