What is happening with CARTA? Very little traffic on the Main channel!

Hello,

I own a BCT8 and I recently did the update on it to allow for the rebanding. I am trying to reprogram it for the systems up here and I followed what I believe to be right. But I do not get any talk group numbers or ones I believe I programed in there. I can hear soem conversations but it seems jumpy. I am mostly interested in the East Ridge Area.

The three sites I see on the page, do they are get programmed in that order, and on separate trunks, or all in one?

I use to live in Daytona Beach and had the System done right for there but I can not seem to get this one right. Welcome to all suggestions.

Your scanner will not work on the Tennessee Valley system since it's analog only. You will have to get a digital capable scanner to listen, like the Uniden 396xt or 996xt.

Tonight (3/8/11) I found 852.8000 as a Control Channel as I was sitting near Hamilton Place Mall. I was getting lousy reception on Simulcast so I went searching for another site and came acroos this freq. I see on the D'base anther freq shown. Maybe you all are aware - but since it was new to me, perhaps it is to others.

Thanks for all the good info Butch and others are posting!

Cheers from Georgia!

Quote from earlier....
On the East Brainerd / Brock Road site, these frequencies will replace the 866 / 867 / 868 MHz frequencies:

851.6000
852.1000
852.8000 -
853.8000

This is a fill in site originally designed to improve coverage into Hamilton Place, but it helps analog users around East Brainerd. Most traffic on this site starts on 855.0625, which was added last year. That freq used to one of several for police MDT data. if more users affiliate here they use the other licensed freqs as needed.

Default Still functional?

Is this system still functional for certain users, or has everything migrated to the Tennessee Valley Regional System?

Thanks,

Default Answered My Own Question LOL

Got a chance to go to Chattanooga today and learned that this system is very much still active. Turns out I am just not able to lock on to it from my home.

need some info please, I've been reading all these post about re-banding and new control channels and such, but I have a pro 97 I've had for several years, with the exception of catoosa county I seem to be receiving chattanooga police and fire just fine, also hamilton county .Am I missing something? I have a pro 106 on the way, is there maybe someone in the chattanooga area with an updated 106 that I could clone from?

It depends on how a system was rebanded determines if a scanner will work or not, it all depends on which frequencies they use.
Looking at the database, Hamilton county public safety trunk, site 1, looks ok to use after rebanding
so your scanner is good to go...for now. You have a digital scanner on the way which is good, things will probably go digital in the future.
Maybe someone close to you can help you with programming, it would be a lot easier but eventually you need to learn how to program it.

Thats the current freq lineup per FCC.. And for those that don't get what the Emissions Designations mean:

8K00F1D P25 Phase I C4FM data (per Harris MASTR V type acceptance)
8K00F1E P25 Phase I C4FM voice (extrapolated from Harris MASTR V type acceptance)
8K10F1D P25 Phase I C4FM data
8K10F1E P25 Phase I C4FM voice (typically used for single-site systems; P25 mode in RRDB)
8K10F1W P25 Phase II subscriber units (Harmonized Continuous Phase Modulation - H-CPM)
8K30F1D 12.5 kHz data NXDN (IDAS, NEXEDGE)
8K30F1E 12.5 kHz voice NXDN (IDAS, NEXEDGE)
8K30F1W P25 Phase I C4FM hybridized voice and data applications (most commonly seen on trunked licenses)
8K30F7W 12.5 kHz voice and data NXDN (IDAS, NEXEDGE)
8K50F9W Harris OpenSky (2 slot narrowband)
8K70D1W P25 Linear Simulcast Modulation ASTRO (9.6 kbps in 12.5 kHz channelspace)
9K20F1D Zetron-based alphanumeric paging/alerting system (seen in practice using Daniels base stations)
9K30F1D SCADA/Remote Control
9K80D7W P25 Phase II fixed-end 2-slot TDMA (Harmonized Differential Quadrature Phase Shift Keyed modulation - H-DQPSK), per Motorola literature
9K70D1W P25 Linear Simulcast Modulation "WCQPSK" data catch-all emission (per Harris MASTR-V literature)
9K70F1D P25 Linear Simulcast Modulation "WCQPSK" data (per Harris MASTR-V literature)
9K70F1E P25 Linear Simulcast Modulation "WCQPSK" voice (per Harris MASTR-V literature)
9K80D7W P25 Phase II fixed-end 2-slot TDMA H-DQPSK data catch-all emission (per Harris MASTR-V literature)
9K80F1D P25 Phase II fixed-end 2-slot TDMA H-DQPSK data (per Harris MASTR-V literature)
9K80F1E P25 Phase II fixed-end 2-slot TDMA H-DQPSK voice (interpolation of MASTR-V literature)

It appears they are fully approved for not only those freqs, but full P25 phase I & II.

Be on the lookout for any TDMA TG's in the future.

It's in preparation for deployment of THP's new Phase2 TDMA network. Also all four sites of the Chattanooga simulcast cell are getting two more repeater pairs to handle load for THP and growth.

Question rebanding / TVRS

butchgone , you seem to be extremely knowledgable with the upcoming/already here tenn valley regional system, Ive loaded what the RR database has in a pro 106, but really got very garbled transmissions, I reverted back to the smartzone III , its much clearer and I seem to pick alot more entities, plus Im interested in East Ridge police and fire, they arent included in the TVRS system yet. Question, have these TVRS frequencies already been through rebanding? Is there something I need to be entering as far as frequencies Im missing? Ive tried using all and just the control channels with the same results, ANY help would be appreciated, Im beginning to think the cost of the 106 wasnt needed at this point , thanks

ANY TVR sites that are now up are rebanded, ALL new sites will iether be 700 (No rebanding on that band needed), or will be 800 MHz on the new standard ("Post rebanding" frequencies, no new licenses for any "pre rebanded" frequencies are being granted by the FCC). TroopNET is an entirely new TRS which will be 3 and ONLY 3 frequencies per site, in iether 800 MHz (New Licenses), 700 MHz, or VHF High. The TroopNET will be 100% TDMA capable. TVR is upgrading ALL sites to TDMA capable, in compatability mode untill P25 Phase III (TDMA 4 slot) is mandated sometime in the future. The Chattanooga system is finishing the rebanding, and adding of new freqs, then converting over to full P25 and TVR linking. It will be TDMA capable in compatability mode just like the rest of the TVR. Again to know if your monitoring TVR, or TroopNET, just look at the number of frequencies on each site, as well as the TDMA usage. TroopNET 3 frequencies per site, VHF high/700/800, full TDMA, except for mutual aid stuff for now. TVR much larger sets of freqs than just 3, 700/800 only, currently mostly FDMA, with some TDMA sites, new sites will be TDMA ready, mixed usage for a long time.

TroopNET - ONLY state level agencies excepting mutual aid stuff. TVR - Everyone.

As for multisite simulcast P25 and scanners: There are issues with multisite simulcast P25 systems and scanners. Scanners can't handle the way these work as good as actual commercail radios, and if your near the "overlapping" edges of reception of multiple sites, or in the middles of coverage for multiple sites, you will have digital "garbling" as it were. Some "fixes" for this include putting the "roam" feature on for the multisite options, getting directional antennas and locking them on one particular site, and for some scanners, iether updating, or rolling back the firmware updates untill you find what works.
