Curious as to what is the latest/greatest radio to monitor the Memphis/Shelby County system? Last radio I used was the BC-396T. Not a bad radio but the audio left a lot to be desired. The adjustment procedure was a nightmare. I also found that mine required a VERY strong signal to sound decent. In East Memphis, signals were very weak. I tried a variety of antennas.
I'm wonder about the new XT, the PSR-500 and even the Uniden Home Patrol.
Thanks for the input and your patience.

Thanks for the answer. I appreciate it. I will read the applicable reviews. Any cons? Can you compare it to a BC-396T by chance?
Thanks much.

Try RS pro 106, or maybe not.

Got my hands on PRO-106. Better for listening to Memphis area systems vs. the Uniden 396T. P25 audio is clearer and the sensitivity is much improved. I can't hear the FedEx systems at the airport or Desoto County on the 396T. They come in fine with the 106 and stock antenna. I was using an enhanced 800 MHz antenna on the 396T. I'm in the Poplar/Perkins area. Curious what others are seeing with the PRO-106. A little tough learning curve but I'm getting there.

I bought a PSR 500 a year or so ago and noticed it receives the Memphis system much, much better than the 396T.

Thanks for the comment Matthew. Are you using the Win500 software to program by chance?

I am using Win 500 and it is the only way to go with these radios. But this is just one man's opinion. The client that is with Win 500 is pretty cool too. To be able to utilize the radio and not have to be infront of it.

Question Regarding Systems/Sites
Matthew, Radio Cop, I'm trying to get some solid info on the two sites. It seems like several years ago that MPD and MFD were on system or site 1 and the hospitals were on site 2. Right now, I have my PRO-106 programmed to scan both sites with the same TGs. However, I never see a TG come up on site two for MPD, MFD. I do see the hospitals come up on Site 2. Would you mind explaining this to me. I'm now assuming that MPD, MFD, SCSO, SCFD are all on Site 1???? Some other services are on Site 2 but I'm not sure which ones other than the hospitals?
Matthew, tried to email you. I'm guessing you're like me and have an old email address in the system?
Thanks much men.

You are correct. All Public Safety for both the county and city are on site 1. All other services (city, public works, hospitals, courts, jail etc) are on site 2.

Thomas, that is a big help. I was concerned that the sites might be connected to geographical coverage and I should run both of them. Doing so is sucking up the resources on my PRO-106. I used to listen on a 396T but haven't had it for more than a year. Just got the PRO-106 as you can see and trying to bring myself up to speed.
To clarify, the only thing I should put on Site 1 is MPD, MFD, SCSO, SCFD? I'm assuming that only includes the TGs grouped under these headings in the database?
Thanks for your patience. I appreciate it.

Yes. Site 1 should be MPD, MFD, SCSO, SCFD, Millington PD. There may be some others that I can't think of right now, but if its police or fire it's site 1.

How about the radio shop TGs? And the emergency back-ups for MPD and MLGW? These are the ones on the Memphis/Shelby County system. And, have we ever heard these used before. Would be Public Safety Back-Up and MLGW Back-Up towards end of list of TGs.
Thanks Thomas

I personally haven't heard the Backup talkgroups used, but doesn't mean they aren't. They are programed in the radios so..

The Radio Shop TGs are on Site 2 (if I remember right).
I thought the public safety back-up TGs were on the MLGW system. not sure why they're listed on the Memphis system. I've never programmed them in my scanner.
The MLGW TGs are probably on Site 2.

Tomek you're right. MLGW backups are on site two I believe. Also, MLGW's system carries the public safety backup talkgroups.
