Default Franklin PD

I traveled to Franklin, TN today and thought I had my RS Pro-96 programmed with the info in the database using Win96. I could not receive anything. I used the exact same settings that I use for Metro Nashville.

Is there something is different from Nashville and Franklin?

Thanks!

Bob

This much I can say, Nashville is a Motorola Type II with digital talkgroups. Franklin is a pure P25 digital system. I don't own a Pro 96, but with my Uniden 396T you have to tell the scanner that the one is a P25 system and NOT a type II with digital talkgroups.
Someone else on here can clarify if the Pro96 is they same way or not.

Bob
Were you able to hear the control channel?
Franklin's system is hard to monitor. Coverage outside of the city is intermittent but in the city I have to use the attenuator.
Almost impossible to monitor in Brentwood but can hear it intermittently in Nolensville.
I almost think they have their antenna arrays set more like cell phones with small discreet coverage areas in contrast with Nashville where you can hear the system pretty relliably over half a county away. (Full scale in Nolensville as is the Airport TRS).

I have monitored other 9600 baud systems and none were as crazy to listen to as Franklin's.

Thanks for the replies Danny & Doc.

I double checked my software and didn't see an obvious way to tell it to be a pure P25 digital system. I was not able to hear the control channel. I don't think their coverage was the problem, since I was trying to monitor from Brentwood to Hwy 96 to Arrington.

Here's a link to a screen shot jpg of how I have it programmed: Franklin PD Win96. Hopefully this will help.

Thanks again.
Bob

(P.S. Is Brentwood now digital? I thought I read that somewhere, but the RR database still shows them FM.)

Bob,
Your programming is fine per Win96. The CC I hear most is 853.9500.
Check and make sure Global Attenuation is off.
Otherwise I am stumped.

Thanks for looking. Maybe I was in a very quiet time in Franklin. Attenuation is off. Next time I visit my folks in Arrington, I'll spend some extra time in downtown Franklin and do some longer listening time.

Default Franklin

I have contributed some information for Franklin here on the database. I can confirm Franklin is all digital, and 853.95 is the CC most often used. I have also heard that Franklin is hard to pick up outside the city limits. (A friend of mine told me that after I programmed a scanner for him.) Anyways, if it was a quiet day, I would suggest attempting to listen to the PD Main Talkgroup or the Residential Waste talkgroup. Those 2 often have a lot of traffic.
