Exclamation Collierville PD upgrading to P25 digital

The City of Collierville Police Dept was approved $2.44M for a new P25 digital radio system as part of the City's Capital Improvement Project.

The system will be a Motorola Astro Express, single site system. It is unknown at this time if the system will be strictly a 700MHz, 800MHz or a combination of both.

Preliminary estimates for completion are sometime in the fall of 2013 but this is of course, subject to change.

Radios are possibly going to be XTS5000 Model III for Public Safety, and Model II for all other services, again, subject to change. It is unknown at this time what type of mobile radios will be used.

Stay tuned for updates

Well I hope that sometime between now and the upgrade date someone will tell me if and what I have to do in order to listen to the Collierville Police and Fire Department. I currently use an RS Pro 197. Took me a while to get the current frequencies in right because all of this digital scanning is new to me.

Collierville is not currently digital. We are on a Motorola Passport system, which is not trackable by any scanner on the market. You can however listen to the radio traffic in conventional mode with no delay. You will catch some of the data burst keyups but it's listenable.

I know the Collierville system is currently LTR and I have been successful in programming in the frequencies for monitoring. My comment was relative to the the new system once they upgrade.
What will I have to do to receive based on 700-800mhz and P25. I am relatively sure the Pro 197 will work for that but I am also sure I will have to do some reprogramming.

You will have to do some reprogramming for sure. The Pro 197 is a digital scanner so you should have no problems listening to them when the time comes.
