Default Scanner Programing

I am looking for someone who knows what they are doing to, help me with programing a new scanner. The Franklin tn PD has gone digital and I need to buy a new scanner but I dont have a clue in the programing of the new system. I own a wrecker service and a scanner really helps in my business. I am willing to drive up to 75 miles from Franklin and will pay good money for some help. I havent bought a new scanner yet, but thats no problem.

I was in Brink Electronics/Radio Shack store on Gallatin Road in Nashville, a couple of weeks ago and one of the owners told me that the Radio Shack digital radios they sell are now programmed with the new Franklin digital system, as well as Metro Nashville.

Hi Bill,

I was in Arrington today and was able to pick up the new Franklin system with my RS Pro-96 with no problems at all. They sounded almost as good as the Metro Nashville system. I also included the conventional channels for EMS, fire, Sheriff, etc. of everything in Williamson County.

I agree 100% with tbharper about purchasing Win96 if you plan to go with a Pro-96. I wouldn't want to try to program it without the software and cable.

Good luck and have fun!

Bob

It is not nearly as complicated as it seems. If you are familiar with programming the old style conventional frequencies you will not have a problem.

All you will need to do is program in 868.9500, then key in the talkgroup IDs. For example dispatch is 00101. The Franklin system is so small you will not need the software. If you also want to program the Nashville system the software will help since there are so many talkgroups.

Most Radio Shacks sell the 96. I would find one that has them in stock then I would wait a couple weeks until the day after Thanksgiving.

I downloaded the software, and it all is greek to me. I dont know what all the terminology means so I dont know what goes where. Believe me I am really racking my brain trying to learn this but it just wont sink in my numb scull. Someone should write a book called Scanner Software For Dummies. Any help would be apreciated. I did buy a new Pro 96 today.

Did you check with Brink Electronics/Radio Shack store on Gallatin Road in Nashville? As I mentioned in an earlier post, the scanner is already pre-programmed with the Franklin and Nashville systems. Also, you could check with the RS store in Cool Springs--they may be able to download the system for you from their database. According to the RS web site this scanner is ON SALE now for $349.00!

Yes, I did buy one at Brinks friday. He gave me a 4 page list of stuff that was pre-programed in it, and told me Franklin was in Bank 8, but when I got back to Franklin, Bank 8 didnt have anything in it. It didnt even have Brentwood. I had my Pro 97 with me and it was just chattering away, but the 96 was not recieving Brentwood, even with all the banks on. I didnt want all the crap that was pre-programed in it so I took it back. However I did buy another 96 saturday that was not programed. Im going to go get me a cable today as soon as radio shack opens. Ill try programing with win96. A few guys on RR have gave me some great tips on programing so Im gonna give it a try.

I keep getting an error message when I try to upload to scanner. It says
Expected to read backthe data we just wrote-this failed. Ensure the correct Com port is selected, a supported cable is attached to the computer and scanner, and the radio is turned on.

I thought I had a bad cable so I went back and exchanged it and it still does the same thing

Did you check to see if you were using the correct com port?

I think it varies from computer to computer. Mine is 4. Just start at the top of the list and keep trying until you find the one that works.
