Default Has anyone heard the rumors yet for Beecounty

I have been hearing via some fairly good sources that Bee County Sheriff is fixin gto go p25 real soon and for the rest of the beeville folks to stepo up there radio systems to be compatible. I dont know what this will do but the sheriff handles allot for ems and the outer county FD calls. I know those folks can not afford new radios unless the county has them figured in for new radios for all the trucks and handhelds for the firemen.

Dont make any sense why they all dont get together and build 1 system to handle everything pool the funds and get a great county wide system for everyone involved. course that might bne too easy.
Only comment I got was the county does not want the city to have ANY control of there system type of attitudes. again all a he said she said still but figured I ask here and see if anyone else that are in the loop more then I am may know more I am sure.

Just if they change I like to be ready with a new scanner and want to know what system they going to so I get the right new scanner to handle my Job as emergency ARES and races for this county. i like to stay up on things also as my son is a VFD here and I like to listen when he is out on calls to be sure all is ok and such.

Fred, welcome to RR.

I haven't seen anything mentioned about Bee County transitioning to P25, but a P25 conventional system would not surprise me. I only get through Bee County once or twice a year on the way to PINS or Port A to fish. More than likely, if your rumor is true, the frequencies will remain the same, and they'll begin to use digital modulation on new equipment (everything but the feed line and antennas basically). That being said, DPS has used P25 conventional (with remote linked repeaters) with success for years. It can be made to be robust.

Check out, at a minimum the Radio Shack Pro-96/2096 or Uniden 396T/996T. A little more advanced series are the GRE PSR-500/600 (also the RS Pro-106/107) or the Uniden 396XT/996XT. Also, a very user friendly, brand new scanner that is changing the market is the Uniden Home Patrol 1. It is very user-defined and requires little to no skill to begin with, and is flexible for advanced users as well.

Default Beeville

Well the Rumors are not p25 yet but to change freq's from what I been told to stop allot of the other areas around us from over powering there little systems and have a little more space between them. also some places south of here are of course via skip even bombing them out.

BUT I am real leary to believe it cause the move to p25 would make more sense and be better to replace a 30 yr old radio system that is in dire need of upgrades. the tech even said its not worth putting a dime into this old thing and allot of the parts they can't even get any more hahaha.

I will post when I get info of whatever they do. I am in ares here so I know I will get what I need for monitoring and they have told me since I am using my home shack right now for the ares system for the county of getting me a radio to use from here to them anyways and setup a simplex channel even for emergency use. or some crazy things like that. Son is also on the VFD here so I would need that info also to reprogram his own radio he uses for FD uses. they dont have enough radios to supply them all with what is needed to be safe. so untill a person gets a HT he can't go into a house fire or on grass fires has to stay on a truck or with a person with radio. small town blues no money but they all manage to pay themselves and the day the VFD needs to go put out a house fire at his house and all that shows up are guys with no radios we see what happens that day hahaha. I bet they get radios real soon after that. they are talks of new radios installed in trucks and FD a new updated dispatch room.
I am in that room also soon when they get done we going in and setting up a dual bander with aprs and such for them to view and use for backups also. no word if we going to put a HF in there but I sure would hope they do as it would give us a complate backup system in 2 buildings across the street from each other. just nice to have backups since the EOC is on 2nd floor and all windows right around the shack itself. so if it gets slammed them windows go there goes the EOC radios, they can still use main rooms though.

will be interesating all the way around when and if this happens. I know it is supposed to be doing something soon.

again I will post freq's as I get them and what I can post only. no freebie special channels given for sure.
ok guys have a great day and see you when the freq's start to change here.
