Default encryption

Does that mean I have to change a setting to receive it properly on the pro 197? Sorry new to this P25 and it is confusing. I am an analog guy been into radio since 96 so hard to change.

No, encrypted means it is encrypted. You won't ever be able to hear it. Now, with that said, doesn't the 197 tell you when you are on encrypted channel. I mean doesn't the display say something like "Enc" or "E" or something different?

When i pick upba transmission on the new p25 freqs i do not see an e or anything. I do get broken audio that is partially understandable though. Sounds like a garbled cell phone where u can partially make out what they are saying.

Where are you listening from? You may be in a bad spot. The system should cover all of Johnson County really well.

Using a radio shack discone antenna 20 feet in the air. In the burleson area. Also have no issues picking up parker county p25. So i doubt its a signal issue. I will keep looking at my configs.

The nearest tower is in Alvarado and Cleburne until they build out the 3rd site off 1187 and 1902... They have applied to to the FCC to add this site to the license for the system, but the last I checked it was still pending.

What type of scanner and antenna are you using to receive them just fine?

I live in Cleburne and listen to the system with a Uniden BC396T and a Radio Shack 800 Mhz antenna.
The system comes in real good for me. Now granted I'm close to the Cleburne tower, but with the
coverage this sytem has, I would think you should have no problem picking it up. Perhaps if you could
provide details as to how you have the system programmed in to your scanner, that might help in
determining where the problem lies.

Good Luck!

FYI the previous info I posted was the comma seperated output of my scanner config. If this is not the info you meant please let me know what you were wanting to look at.

Thanks

Looks like you have everything programmed in correctly. There is only one encrypted talkgroup on the
system so far, which is 5804. You can forget about hearing anything on that talkgroup. As of right now
their really isn't much activity on the system. Cleburne PD has been sporadically using 5803 and JoCo
SO has been using 5769 a little bit. The most active talkgroup has been 5793. Several Joshua PD officers
and CPD officers talking back and forth about the range and features of the system.

With your scanner connected to a discone antenna, you really should have no problem picking up the
system. Hell, if you can pick up the Parker County P25, then I see no reason why the JoCo P25 system
shouldn't come in loud and clear. The fact that the Crowley tower hasn't come online yet shouldn't even
be a factor considering your setup.

I know very little about object oriented scanning, other than I dislike it VERY much. LOL! So unfortunately
I'm of little help to you as far determining if your setup is correct. Although it does appear correct. I just
recently helped a friend of mine program his new RS Pro 106 with the new JoCo system. That was first
and hopefully the last time I will have to mess with object oriented scanning. Coming from years of what
I feel is a more simplistic form of programming with Uniden, I found it to be VERY frustrating! Needless to say
his scanner picks up the system just fine. Hopefully some else with more knowledge with object oriented
scanning can better pinpoint where the problem is.

I would just keep an eye on the JoCo P25 system in the database here. At some point the admins on here will get the frequency and site info from the FCC database and add it to the database here. From the chatter I've been hearing on talkgroup 5793, the Crowley tower should be coming online pretty soon. That will help with system coverage in the north and northwest parts of the county. Although from the testing that they have been doing coverage is pretty darn good even without that tower online. The other night a Joshua PD officer was almost near downtown Dallas and he was still able to talk on a handheld to a Cleburne PD officer. From all the chatter I've been hearing, they really love the system and can't wait to start using it full time. It shouldn't be much longer before CPD and JoCo SO completely migrate to the system.

Johnson County is currently set us as simulcast so the new tower should use the same frequencies but just provide better coverage.

Has anyone heard any traffic on their frequencies today? I think I found my problem but have not heard anything today. Do they just test during the week?

The system has been fairly quite this weekend. As I said before, their just isn't much activity
on it as of yet. I wouldn't expect to hear much until maybe late this month or early next month.
I'm believe they are still in the process of programming handhelds and installing the new radios
in their vehicles.

Default Reception issues

I figured out why I was having issues receiving the new system. The signal is not very strong where I am at. Anytime the wind is blowing hard and moving my discone slightly the signal from the new p25 tower varies wildly. I dropped the antenna down about 10 inches and that seemed to help some.

Johnson County P25 has been merged into Fort Worth Regional Radio System as they ID as the same system. The Johnson County DB entry will no longer be maintained and has been marked deprecated.

If you're interested in Johnson County only then use Site 4 from FWRRS and program your talkgroups as desired. If your radio is already programmed then no changes are necessary. GPS coordinates in the DB are set up for Sites and Categories for radios that support GPS data.

Please continue to use this thread to post Johnson County items, issues, etc.

Thanks,
Russell

Russell,
Since this system uses simulcasting, wouldn't one want to go ahead and program in the FW frequencies as well? That way you would hear the system whether your closer to the JoCo towers or FW towers. I have frequencies from both sites plugged in to my scanner. While traveling through Burleson today I heard JoCo SO come up on one of the frequencies for the FW site. My scanner automatically switches from JoCo tower to FW when traveling north from Cleburne and into Burleson.
