Smile New to Austin...good Overview of Systems?

Moving to Austin - wanting to get my radios all setup.

Moving to the Round Rock or Georgetown area? Is there a good primer or suggestions of what systems I need in my radio for Basic Police/Fire - play with all the other fun stuff later.

Is it DIGITAL? Scannable aka Purevoice?
I have one digital base - Pro 197 and the handhelds just TrunkTrackers without digital.

I am sure it will be big change over our measley Motorola Type 2 trunking in Tulsa.

Thanks,
Rich

You stated: "Moving to the Round Rock or Georgetown area "

Everything in RR and Williamson County is encrypted except RRFD. All I can get anymore is the RR fire department and DPS. It's not good here at all. Austin is wide open though as well as Travis County.

Like W5 says, Wilco is 99% encrypted. TravCo is 99% clear.

Both use P25. LCRA is EDACS but migrating to P25 and Opensky. No ProVoice.

Most everything of interest that is monitor-able is on GATRRS. Austin still uses the old FD 460 freqs for CAD. DPS is on VHF P25 conventional and on the various counties systems.

Unhappy Thanks All....

Really sad that Williams County is so highly encrypted....
All our Ambulance stuff is encrypted but expected due to Hippa regs...etc.

So if I am wanting to hear nearby action from area of Round Rock in regards to Police / TAC etc. GATTRS is best choice for Austin PD and Travco PD/Sheriff on P25. But in the dark for Round Rock PD.

Thanks for all the info...will be interesting...
Lastly is the Immigration very exciting - anything else for me to search the Database for?

Thanks for all your help everyone.

jhooten - you said most everything of interest that is monitor-able is GATRRS - what is this?

Just wanting to listen then to nearby Police or Highway Patrol - so what could I "Pickup" in Round Rock. Should I try Pfluggerville or Georgetown PD? Maybe Hutto ? And then Texas Highway Patrol?

Thanks...Rich
