Default No longer Hearing FWPD on P25 System

Not hearing any FWPD encrypted or digital audio traffic on the new P25 system, are they rethinking full encryption? Westover Hills (TG 5799) is the only one using the system, unencrypted digital audio.

I talked with a guy I work with part time whos wife works in a dispatch center in Fort Worth. He said that they had some issues patching the encrypted channels with the old analog system. They decided that for now, they will all move to the new system all at one time when the system is ready for full implementation. He did not say when it would happen but all of FWPD will move at once. He didnt know about the rest of the users.

Default Tarrrant/Johnson County P25

I'm getting ready to head to Ft. Worth. Therefore, I am wanting to know if there is any radio traffic on the old Tarrant County MOT system.

I am assuming that Tarrant County SO has not joined the new Tarrant/Johnson County P25 system. Furthermore, I don't know if the SO is planning to join this system.

Also, I would like to comment on previous posts within this thread concerning EMS/Fire & HIPPA.

I recently talked to a well-informed friend who lives in the Houston area. He stated the reason for encryption on the TxWarn P25 Houston Talk Groups, specific to EMS/Fire, was related to HIPPA.

Westover Hills is the only Police department on the P25 system currently. FWPD has the capability in some divisions, but they've gone back to analog until the whole city can be on it, later this year, if I understand correctly. Otherwise, the convention center and Will Rogers complex operations are on the P25 system, but that's about it, for now. The analog system is still the one to monitor for now.

Here is what I'm hoping for relative to Fort Worth. I am hoping that the police chief: a) decides to retire; b) gets another job elsewhere; c) comes to his senses regarding encryption; d) changes his mind as a function of a citizen uprising specific to government transparency.

Thanks for the information.

I seriously doubt he is leaving anytime soon. And since he is from Phoenix, or somewhere in Arizona, the radio traffic will be encrypted because a lot of their radio traffic is encrypted. I enjoy listening to FW PD. I hate to see they are going encrypted.

Yes, I loved it when I monitored Ft. Worth.

Well, Ft. Worth has a history of having some rather strange LE administrators.

I recall an extremely bizarre Sheriff up there. He was finally defeated. At one point in time, I remember reading about his "God Pod" which consisted of offenders claiming to be "saved" in order to get more privileges. I might be a bit jaded after having worked in corrections for so long, but this man was really weird.

After the encryption migration has occurred, I will be driving on IH35 E in order to hear radio traffic instead of IH35W. I hope Dallas stays in the clear.

Is that the same one, Lon Evans, who went to Tennessee and saw their blue lights and changed their light bars to all blue?
