Houston Texas Training causes scared residents
The US Military decied to train over the skies of Houston, Texas. They scared many of the residents flying real low and having live gun fire in Houston. They told the police but no other agency what was going on. The Fire Department, Mayor, City Council all did not know. Many residents thaught the end of the world world was starting.
Did you see or hear helicopters? Army training exercise takes over on Houston's south side | abc13.com

I think this is related to a training exercise being conducted at an old prison on Galveston Island. It sounds similar. I recall that it was for some military special operations groups.

Apparently there were similar exercises in other metro areas such as Miami and Los Angeles. Here's one of several videos from YouTube of Black Hawks strafing downtown Miami: Machine Gun Fire From Black Hawk Helicopters Flying Over Miami BISCAYNE BLVD - YouTube
The Galveston training event was separate from the Houston one, and I think part of it was cancelled due to weather.

Now, why in the world would they be doing this over major cities (any accident would, I imagine, cause a BIG mess) and not in the desert southwest somewhere?

To show the population who is in. Charge. What with talk of gun control and the citizens objecting to it the feds want to give a show of force. The moron who commentted in the article that they are going to protect him n his family has no clue that they would use the firepower against him in a heartbeat. Or Mabe ou
r elected officials are downright ignorant and didn't think of a notification. Personally I belieive the show of force theory.

The thought that the military needs to do this training over populated areas is ludicrous, they have plenty of already in-place training areas that mimic urban areas and can be configured on the fly to what is needed at the time. That said, the incorporation of local law enforcement in such operations would dictate that it be carried out on a local basis.
Now, that brings up the point that since this is the military, or at least it appears to be, and local law enforcement is being incorporated, one is led to believe it has something to do with law enforcement. If so then the Posse Comitatus Act has to be considered. Since the active duty military cannot be used to enforce state laws, or in support of such enforcement, except in times of insurrection and then only on presidential order, you have to wonder just what is going on (not that you weren't already.) I suspect that somewhere down the road the purpose of such activity will come to light and we will find it is something else the current administration is doing that is against the law it is sworn to uphold.

Can we leave politics out of the Texas Forum?
Nothing in this is radio related, nor was the OP originally asking about which frequencies were in use...

Sorry to disagree with your opinion, but politics are not really being raised here; hence, my carefully worded response just above your post. My posting in this thread serves two purposes, one it means I have set the limit of how far we can go off toward government involvement (not political at all) and two it means I am watching to make sure it doesn't go further.
Next, it is acceptable to discuss non-radio related topics of interest to the community in regional forums, sort of like this one you might recognize that has nothing to do with radios, frequencies or communication but is related to government and armed response to...well something.

I didn't say we disagree politically at all, in fact I do agree with everything you've said, however there is NOTHING radio related in this thread except for my first post, which is the first time the words "radio" and "frequencies" are used.
Notice you and other posters use words like "Posse Comitatus Act", "elected officials", "state laws", "current administration", etc. I would say those are all words relating to "politics" in general, not radio at all, contrary to your statement "but politics are not really being raised here" even though you clearly state:

Notice we are in the Regional Radio Discussion Forum which would imply we are supposed to be discussing radio related subjects (and this very well could have turned in to a radio related thread, but it did not).
I'm not trying to blast anyone... just saying this isn't radio related.

To reiterate, after reading this entire thread again...
I'm not here to get in a pissing match... especially against Lou, I'll lose for sure. I just expected more out of this community and would hope they could see that this topic has nothing to do with radios at this point.
Y'all can continue this thread if it so pleases yourselves... I'm out.

Training plain and simple. VERY POORLY CONCEIVED AND EXECUTED training, but training nonetheless. This has been quite the fodder for the tinfoil wearing conspiracy theorists.
Let's face it, the US Military does not have the manpower to operate effectively within the US, even if they were allowed to. We have difficulty fighting several thousand Taliban in Afghanistan (in terms of the number of combat soldiers, not the quality and heart of those soldiers), much less trying to operate in the US. If anything, our government is actually killing our military with budget cuts, if they actually wanted to use them as muscle, then they would be trowing ungodly amounts of money into the military and increase recruitment.

I understand the Tin Foil business has been booming recently. One thing we don't seem to be short on is crackpots and their theories. Rational thought on the other hand seems to be in very short supply.

Sorry If my Post upset some of you. I'm sorry. I would have never guessed that it would upset someone with a Don't Tread On Me in their avatar. I looked for the best form to target the best audience so I picked Texas. If something friend or foe was flying over my house firing blanks at anytime I would like to know. I doub't you would have found the frequency they used unless you were doing a search in the air band. The Military Helos were from Delta Force located at Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Chances are you don't have Ft Bragg Frequencies in your scanner. I live in Alabama and don't. I may have to add them after watching this video. Sorry again. If Loumaag sees a better forum feel free to move it.
