Today I monitored a large military 4 engine airplane ( Im not famiiar with the type of aircraft) doing exercises.I only saw one airplane flyover numerous times. They were talking about a scud missle going down the street and cilivian children & things like that. They were on 143.70mhz. The callsigns were Rage (or Ranger) 88 and Stringray. This is unusal for Lubbock. Any ideas where they are from since there are no basaes near Lubbock.

I can only recall the P3 or C130 as 4 engine prop planes...

Could it have been a C130 out of NAS Fort Worth? According to this list, Ranger is a common callsign for C130s out of NAS Fort Worth. Additionally this Wikipedia page shows that VMGR-234 is the Ranger squadron out of NAS Fort Worth.
