When I'm at work I'm a block away from the heliport.

What frequencies should I listen to?

The contracted for news choppers (operated by Sky Helicopters) are based at Garland. Dallas Air-1 is based at Dallas Executive Airport (formerly named Red Bird Airport).

Exclamation

123.05 for Garland Heliport and Mesquite AP
123.025 for Helicopter Air to Air
CBS 11 and FOX 4 share a Sky Helicopters Robinson R-44 chopper
450.3125 131.8 FOX 4 news desk
450.5125 103.5 CBS 11 news desk
NBC 5 has a dedicated Sky Helicopters Robinson R-44 chopper
450.1875 114.8 NBC 5 news desk

Channel 8 ABC chopper based at Grand Prairie (8 Ball) Eurocopter AS-350B2
450.0875 156.7 ABC 8 news desk

Put those freqs in your scanner and you will know everything going on in the DFW area (well at least that is newsworthy!!!). Even though Dallas/Fort Worth is now media market #5, most helo activity is centered around the news broadcasts: noon shows and 4 to 6:30pm (NBC & CBS) and 5 to 6:30 (FOX & ABC) broadcasts. Stations only put up choppers at night during advertising rating period "Sweeps" or a major news events.
