Default DeWitt County SO

I'm getting DeWitt County SO Dispatch loud and clear here into San Antonio on 155.580 (P25) - there are no FCC licenses for them on this frequency.

Any ideas?

I'm curious. How far, relative to line of sight, are you from this county? From my experience, digital radio signals can travel further if the conditions are right.

Lindsay, are you also receiving the DeWitt SO-1 on 154.7250 NAC=400 ? Some crazy patch maybe?
Oddly enough Leon Valley PD-1 in also on 154.7250 PL=203.5 with an input of your 155.5800 freq .
Also, on that 155.5800 P25 freq ... what NAC are you getting ? I also see some TDCJ use of 155.58
Since putting up a roof top antenna, I'm getting Seguin PD-1 154.7850 NAC=293 great at 281 & 1604.
I wll sit on 155.5800 here at Radio Shack and then later when I get home to check out what I can hear.

Hey Lindsay, I have 3 specific questions so I can try to help out:
:
1) While you heard Dewitt Co SO-1 on 155.5800, what P25 NAC did you observe ?
2) When you did hear traffic on 154.7250, was it Leon Valley PD-1 with a PL=203.5 ?
3) How often are you hearing traffic on 155.5800 ... days now, this morning only or regular use ?

Earlier today you had me wondering if perhaps Leon Valley PD had switched to Digital P25
and you might have been getting their input of 155.5800 all except for the content didn't match up.
All day at work I had my demo Pro-197 parked on Tune = 155.5800 and heard nothing since 11am.
I just got home and I have confirmed Leon Valley PD is still on 154.7250 with their PL of 203.5 tonight.
Now I'm home with a Pro-197 with my rooftop antenna parked on TUNE = 155.5800 to observe
anything I can hear - I will post results. I even called a friend out in Guad Co to sit on 155.5800 tonight.

Mark, when you say "the feed has them on 154.7250" I take it you meant the Dewitt Co SO-1 feed ?
Also, I edited my mix up with Leon Valley and Sequin PD (my brain is tired after a 12 hour workday
I called my Guad Co buddy just now and he monitored 155.5800 from 9pm to 10pm and heard nothing.
I have not heard any traffic either. I pass the jury ... any ideas ? Maybe Lindsay had traffic late tonight ?

I haven't had a chance to follow-up on this today.

However, my R-9500 brings in DeWitt county SO on 155.580 quite nicely (I haven't tried today but it has all day, for the past 2 days). The R-9500 doesn't decode the NAC. I've tried to use my PSR-600 to decode the NAC but I can't get a good enough signal on the same antenna, even with the ATN enabled. (the GRE radios tend to overload easily and don't do good on distant signals with outdoor antennas).

Wow that A-B sensitivity comparison between the R-9500 and the PSR-600 is pretty stark in contrast !
Even with Global Attenuate off (Func+ATT) I take it that your 600 won't even decode the P25 sig right?
Tell us about your elevation is it up on a hill ? I was thinking your out IH-10W towards or in Boerne ?
At least I don't feel as bad now about not receiving 155.5800 on 2 diff Pro-197's based on that weak sig.
Tomorrow night on my birthday I will be way out that direction very high on a hill and will try for a NAC

Download and install UniTrunker Retro. Pipe the discriminator audio from the R-9500 into your PC, then run the kNACk utility Rick wrote to decode the NAC.

I have found that DSD works way better on weak P25 signals than kNACk.

It appears that 155.580 is a simulcast of 154.725 - I've confirmed that DeWitt County is using both of these together.

I live at the top of a hill on the north side of San Antonio so I've got really good coverage South and East of SA.

Maybe DeWitt is sharing dispatch duties with another county - I'll have to poke through the FCC licenses a little further.
