The new Wichita Falls new P25 phase II simulcast system has a control channel on the air now (6/22/16).

Unitrunker reports:
System ID: 00A
WACN: 92697
Callsign: WQAQ7B?
RFSS: 010
Site: 010
NAC: 014
855.9625c
856.4625a
856.9625a

This callsign doesn't make sense but it is what Unitrunker shows. The new channels aren't licensed and there are no pending FCC applications that I can find.

Earlier the control channel rotated a buch of times (all 3 channels listed in post #1) but has been on 856.4625 for a couple hours now.

Earlier TG 65101 was patched to 10784 for a while but there was no actvity.

Earlier Unitrunker was showing modulation as CQPSK then it changed to C4FM.

Earlier Unitrunker showed manufacturer ID M/A-COM, but now it's not showing a manufacturer ID. I assume that is something old in Unitrunker that needs to be updated to Harris.

I tried to get DSD+ to work but had no luck because they weren't talking long enough. I'm not sure if it works on phase 2 with discriminator audio.

1210xxx ID range conforms to the Texas Statewide Coordinated P25 Radio Unit Identification Plan for this region. I'm only speculating but 998000x could be dispatch consoles.

No activity for about 2 hours or so. Looks like they are done playing with it for the day.

I scanned the two new channels that were not the active control channel in conventional mode for more than an hour to see if there was a CW ID and heard nothing.

Encrypted talkgroup 11041 is active at the same time as WFPD dispatch talkgroup 1041 on the EDACS system. It appears they are patching the systems together.

Well, that only lasted a few minutes.

How does it sound?
I don't know. I can't get DSD+ 1.101 to decode any audio and I don't have a phase 2 scanner. So far I haven't seen any phase 1 talkgroups. All I can do is watch it on Unitrunker. My BCD396T seems to decode the control channel with no problem.

Ok, thanks for the reply.

This morning I let Unitrunker run while I was out. A few minutes after 8:00, when WFFD does their morning radio check, it looked like they did the hand held radio check on TAC 1 (10801) on the new system.

It appears that the FD radio IDs are the same as the old system except they begin with 1210 now; EDACS 4016 = P25 12104016.
It appears that many talkgroups are numbered in a similar way; EDACS 801 = P25 10801.

Thanks for the info. It's always fun trying to figure out new systems. I make my annual trek up there in August for HHH, and it will hopefully be nice to be able to hear the fire department.

FYI, any talkgroups in the 65xxx range are going to be patch or console multi-select groups. Don't bother submitting them to the database as their usage is dynamic.

Thanks. It appears they were testing a new fire station alerting system and other talkgroups patched from the EDACS system on the 65xxx talkgroups.

From what he told me several years ago when I observed the same thing(not a bug), is both modulators run in parallel and it "decides" which one is best. I pretty much gave up after that.. I was hoping the new re-write would fix the demodulation, but it has not.
