• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am seeking some information and assistance with the items described below. 10 of our patrol cars use the system below and I have been tasked with changing some of the features in the programming.

I have an APX 7500 with 09 control head that is interfaced through a 54ward box to control all emergency lighting through a Federal Signal Smart Siren Platinum. I have the latest CPS for the APX, but am unable to find where in the CPS you can change the button functions of the control head to the specific functions on the siren that you want to activate. All the button functions are simply listed as "third party" when I read the current codeplug.

I also have the latest Federal Signal software and there is no where in it where I can change the control head functions. I have come to the conclusion that there must be a separate software program for the actual 54ward interface box. I have searched and searched but have been unable to locate anything about it. It is such a new novelty in my area that no one really knows anything about it. The original person that programmed all of these items for us was fired and no one knows where he is.

I am very familiar with the Smart Siren software, and comfortable with CPS software, I am just needing a little more guidance with this system. I have applied to Motorola for an online account to browse their software, however it is pending approval as I just submitted it last night.

I Can Help You!

Okay, where did you get the latest version (or any version) of APX CPS to become "comfortable" using/navigating it? If you just submitted to Motorola for an ACCOUNT then you still have to submit an RSS and have it approved (mine took 5 days and I had been using my MOL account for 3 years prior) before you can purchase and then wait a day (if after 8:00 PM EST) for it to process before you can download it. So I'm wondering where you stumbled across this $275 software package?

On a complete separate note, if you truly need help ASAP you can send me a private message and I will discuss with you two options I have to help you today/tonight.

This is not to call you out of anything rude like that, I'm simply curios how you got the software and what version it actually is.

I will private message you, its a long story.

Contact 54ward a hobbyist message board is no place to be asking for help on mission critical public safety equipment

There is always someone that has to be that guy. 54ward has been purchased by Motorola, as this assignment fell into my lap shortly before the holidays I have not had time to call Motorola, nor have they been in the office. As I browse the Motorola forum I see all kinds of questions and discussions on "mission critical" radios. Thanks for the insightful assistance.

If it's black and runs fast, it's a Dodge Charger.

It never ceases to amaze me how many Radio Police we have on this board. The OP could have the software as my agency does, by virtue of when a product is delivered and as part of the sale the software must come with it or no deal. This provides a two fold purpose, to ensure we are get the latest software package with our product and it also determines if the dealer is truely manufacturer supported. Give the guy a break already.
I have had the same problems in the past at my agency until I made it mandatory that all vendors/dealers provide the current software with any product we buy. Case in point last year with the end of the CDM/HT line a vendor provided Motortrbos instead of the CDM's we ordered. Now we can't use them until we get the software, not an easy process since the radio shop doesn't have the capability of ordering software, it has to go through IT. Much easier if it comes included. BTW we do have MOL.

Totally agree about the Chargers, got one, but mines Gray.
