Maybe a pirate. Does it sound like slow scan TV? Some pirates send images this way

No, you are not wrong. I have not been doing it recently myself. But, I can't count the hours that I did spend over the 35+ years I've been in the hobby trying to catch an elusive DX station. It is becoming a lost art.
